This really needed more Windows choices - I play on 7, but it's almost impossible to get anything but 10 on a new machine.

Really just wondering what the percent of non-Windows rigs there are out there playing ESO...

Many more than you are going to discover in a poll because only a small percentage of users playing the game are on the forums.

Well, I would not necessarily agree with this assumption. I understand the limited sample size will yield unreliable results, but you can not assume what is not polled unless you have other data to point you in that direction. As far as I know, there is zero data showing that non windows users use the forum less that windows users.

This poll matches with the data available on Steam (their sample is in the millions):

    Windows: 96%
    Mac OS: 3%
    Linux: 1%

There is simply no alternative to Windows for gaming.

Windows, but not for long. When they force me off Win7 I will switch to Mac because Windows 10 is the most infuriating, horrible virus-masquerading-as-an-OS POS I have ever experienced in my life.

If you have ESO on steam, just activate and launch with proton and boom.

If you do not have ESO on steam, you use Lutris, or even easier, just add ESO to your steam library as a Non-Steam game and activate proton.

I dual boot and read the ESO game files from both Windows and Linux.

The only draw back is addons. They work, but they are a bit fiddley to get running and Minion is not natively linux so that also requires a bit of work. Also, ZOS insists of having the addon files in a ridiculous location rather than a sensible location like in the game directory so you have to search for the the location steam proton creates to emulate windows directories.

Frames are the same on Linux as they are on Windows. ZOS did say they were considering a DX upgrade, if they chose Vulkan instead, Linux would out perform Windows.

If ZOS were to put the addons folder in a sensible location and implement vulkan it would improve the experience on linux and windows (mostly linux) considerably.

I used to have a mac, 4 years ago. Macs just aren't good gaming machines. They're made to be user friendly and are supposedly good for information processing and office work. They suck for gaming. Over priced and under performing.

Minion works with me more or less out-of-the-box. There are only two addon-problems I am aware of (TTC because it needs a different wine prefix because of dotnet, which means I need to copy the data over to my "live" system because symlinks won't work) and libDateTime which I have to patch manually each time it updates (too complicated to explain here).

Well that's actually one reason I play on Linux. For some reason I have 10%-15% higher FPS and faaaar less crashes than using W10. Not using the steam version though.

Yeah, I too get a bit better performance on Linux and have no had a single crash so far. I just didn't want to give unrealistic expectations.

I have issues with TTC (obviously) and also Awesome Guild Stores fails to load.

Can confirm that performance is better on Linux than Windows last I had Windows installed (Win10). Only thing that bugs me is that I have to manually update my addons. Haven't managed to make Minion work so far.

Primarily (and preferred) is Windows 10 desktop. Laptop is a Mac.

The difference is negligible, with the exception of bugs that only impact one of the two clients. Example: the spinning bug with Macs... Hooboy.

That's probably because of the aforementioned libDateTime (it was when my AGS stopped working). Check the libdatetime forum on esoui.com for a fix.

    Windows 10>7

8 was the bad one. You'll adjust, but 7 was lacking once I upgraded.

Running ESO on linux mint with Steamplay. Since I started playing on linux I did experienced no single crash besides server crashes. Performance is slightly below Win 10. 4k is no real problem for me (with 1080ti). There are some slight slowdowns in some large towns, little more than with win 10, but no real hassle since I do not fight in town.
Sometimes some textures will load slow. For example leaving grahtwood central area towards undaunted sprinting or riding will result in some textures missing for a second while arriving. For me this is more or less limited to this area and only while while speeding and to be honest, the blurred/missing textures are not really annoying.
I would still rate the experience 10/10.

Secondary desktop is Linux but only really used for (some) video editing / conversion. Have considered putting ESO on this Linux machine but it is currently monitor-less! Have got wine installed and hear it works exceptionally well with ESO.

Mac? Mine keeps the rain off.
TBH, I went off mac many years ago while at college. A 'tech' guy at college was bragging about how the three networked mac machines at college were 'Oh! So good' - much too good for us student plebs. I challenged him with the specs of my two Amiga 1200s. I mentioned the graphics and sound capabilities of the Amiga, how I used them for word processing, audio, 'paint shop' and gaming - I even had the two linked for, if memory serves, a stunt car game. The tech was altogether defensive and made a joke about the amiga being a 'toy'. He was not so pleased when my tutor and department head backed me up! Those were the days!
