You don’t NEED major sorcery or major brutality in PvP. What you do NEED, is to get gud and understand how the game works. You can definitely kill people with less than 2k SD, it takes longer yes, but it’s definitely doable. Sad as F that people been playing this long and still don’t get it.

You’re spreading terrible advice and then telling people to git gud, that’s the real problem.

Unless you’re playing a utility role in a group, you need some kind of offense embedded into your build.

20% damage increase is a substantial boost. It'd be silly to not run it, either via pots or a skill.

You might kill bad players if you have < 2k spell damage, but solo killing someone who's actually decent in a BG when your damage is that low, especially if there's any cross-healing whatsoever? No.

For competitive PvE DPS you need the buff but you can just use a potion, it's no problem at all.

For PvP you don't really need it. Rattlecage is a waste of a 5pc set and there are more valuable potions. You'll have plenty of kill power without it.

Eh rattle cage is not a waste of a 5piece set. Just stat-wise if the major sorcery alone provides you more than 300 spell damage then with the addition of the free 100 spell damage from 5 piece it strictly outperforms other sets like axiom and war maiden. Doing this allows you to run tri-pots while not running degeneration.

As for OP classes all “lack” something. NBs don’t have a 20s skill that buffs them for major ward/resolve. Sorcerers don’t have a spammable, etc. You can’t expect everyone to get everything and it is fine that way. It makes making builds much more interesting.

You're assuming the person's not getting sorcery elsewhere, which is a bad argument.

Technically it’s always less than 20% damage because max Magicka pool also count towards skill damage calculation. Realistically it is more around 10% damage + or - a few % depending on build.

No where does it say he won't go for sorcery If he wasn't using rattle.. infact he makes it a point to say he will have to get it some how other than degeneration. So comparing rattle to using a set and not getting sorcery elsewhere (pots) is moronic. Do you even read?? JEEEEEEEEEEZ!

Imo, there are dozens of better sets. Youll be able to kill people with it. Ive killed people wearing btb and bp as a hybrid. Im trying to give advice as if they you want better than mediocre.

Rattlecage is a mediocre set because it’s so much more efficient just just get Major Sorc from another source and use a better set.

The point of bringing up Rattlecage is that it highlights how important Major Sorcery is, because without another source of Major Sorc, Rattlecage becomes the best set in the game by a huge margin.

“Best set” is of course subjective, but Major Sorcery give more stats than what any other 5piece gives in terms of stat budgeting. Assuming 2k unbuffed spelldamage (a very conservative number), you get 500 spelldamage from the Rattlecage 5set bonus.

That’s 4X the value of a normal 1piece bonus, the only other unconditional 5sets with that much budgeting are shacklebreaker and Amberplasm, which both split their bonus between mag and stam, making them less focused on your primary stats.

And Major Sorcery is even better if you have a more reasonable amount of unbuffed spelldam, 2k is quite low unless you’re doing something very specific with your build.

The point isn't that major sorcery is good. The point is that you should run a good set and get sorcery elsewhere. Your numbers are off too, sorcery is only 20% and 2k completely unbuffed is very common for magicka on magicka builds that aren't zerg serfing or ganking. Nirn makes your tooltips juicy but it isn't best for damage or healing. It's just versatile/ lazy/ affordable.

There's a ton of reasons why rattle is sub par in damage and especially in stat density.

@EtTuBrutus , you should read the whole thread, I’ve already said that I think rattle is a bad set that you shouldn’t run. I’m just using it to demonstrate how valuable Major Sorcery is to magplar.

Also, my numbers are fine, 20% of 2k is 400, plus the 100 that the 5set gives in addition to the Major Sorc.

I was talking to the guy who said it was 500 spell dmg on a 2k build and that 2k is a low number for unbuffed magicka builds. That was i wasn't it?

NBs get the major resolve/ward from their passives when they use skills from that tree, so they still have access to it.

Removing major sorcery was a bad move, it really hamstrings builds.

True but it can be a problem keeping it up unless you cloak spam, from magnb perspective it doesn't meld well from a ranged perspective

@Jimmy_The_Fixer Not spreading bad advice. Offensive doesn’t always equal “let me stack as much magicka and SD as I can”. Yes it gives you better damage but there are more ways to skin a cat than just “derp derp big number”.

As I said you don’t NEED major brutality or sorcery. Obviously it helps with damage. I flippantly used 2k as a base number because It’s very true. You can kill with less than 2k. Your skill is going to be more of a contribution than anything else, and if you disagree with that then we’ll...enough said.

The people giving bad advice is those saying stack everything into your main pool and wear nothing but spell damage glyphs. THAT is bad advice. You’ll be OoM in a blink of an eye. These are the same magicka players that are like “I can only break free once and roll dodge once”.

Of course this comes down to play style as well — but don’t be a one trick pony, and spread misinformation.
