How to chose a faction?

Oh I'm bored with waiting for this patch to be released and want to pass some time, I am wondering how do you chose a faction from a moral and logical point of view or whatever. Let's talk.

I'm not exactly a role-player but I do make up a personality and backstory for all my characters, so that determines their alliance choice.

Sometimes that doesn't change anything, and they stay in their home alliance. For example my nord dragonknight is supposed to be very young and fairly naive, so she wouldn't have learned much about the other Alliances and wouldn't have any reason to join them. She was on her way to join the Pact forces when she was waylaid by slavers and ended up in Vvardenfell. Because she's also fairly impulsive she got distracted by events there and hasn't yet made it to fighting for the Pact. (Also I don't play her that much, so it's taking a while.)

Whereas my dunmer sorcerer's backstory includes his father studying with the Psijic Order, so he grew up on Summerset and barely remembers living in Morrowind. He also doesn't pay much attention to world events beyond what he hears from those around him, so from his perspective the Dominion are the logical choice to support and he's sure the dunmer will come around sooner or later.

All my chars are AD regardless of race.

Because I can't fight for another alliance :D

Long story short I believe in Ayrenn. She is so pure, idealistic and fierce.

I started out playing ESO without any race, any alliance and I wanted to play a Dunmer. Not only did that make the choice easy for me, but the Pact questline gives me a strong reason to not join up with DC (they are invading and burning the towns of NPCs I cared about) and AD (if you've done Shadowfen, you know what I'm talking about).

Some time after that, I joined a guild that did EP-only PVP, which made subsequent decisions rather easy. Blood for the Pact!

Now, I've done Cadwell's Silver and Gold, and I do think that we can have a serious argument over "which side is the best" if we really want to. The writers did a pretty good job of making the 3 Banners War more complex than mere propaganda. EP isn't perfect and does a little invading of their own, plus slavery, a little necromancy, and a lot of racist bickering. DC has some noble intentions to go with all that invading and Emeric gradually shapes up into a capable ruler. AD has some major factional infighting that works to explain their worst excesses which Ayrenn gradually forms a coalition to reign in and so on.

So typically I approach it from a racial perspective and then figure out why they support EP. Some of my more interesting reasoning:

My high elves tend to start doing Dominion quests, hit Shadowfen, and have a major crisis of conscience so they team up with the Pact in Cyrodiil.

My Imperial is doing quests for the Pact for the moment because she thinks its the most fragmented, and thus the most easily defeated when the Imperial legions rise up to reclaim their homeland and empire. (She's got a long wait on that account. :) )

Almost completely practical; no real RP considerations at all.

My first two characters were a Breton magplar healer and a Redguard stamward DPS, because those sounded like things I would enjoy playing. I then wanted a tank, so I went Imperial. At that point, I decided I wanted all my characters to be the same alliance to avoid being annoyed, so DC it was (and since my next character was an Altmer magsorc DPS, I ended up buying Any Race, Any Alliance).
    Army of me:
CP810+: Breton Templar healer, Redguard stamina Warden, Imperial DK tank, Altmer magicka Sorceror, Orc stamina Sorceror/werewolf, Nord Necromancer tank, Khajit TG/DB Nightblade, Bosmer stamina Necromancer, Argonian Warden healer, Dunmer magicka DK, Nord Nightblade tank
Second account, CP400+: Breton magicka Warden, Nord Nightblade healer/solo vampire, Bosmer stamina Templar/werewolf, Dunmer magicka Necromancer, Orc stamina DK, Argonian Warden tank

    Moral? Logic?

Ok then. I have mains in each of the factions because i want to experience everything available in the game.

To me, the player, factions in a fictional online game mean absolutely nothing. My characters however are fiercely loyal to their respective faction.

My character is a Khajiit that comes from Aldmeri Dominion, but he came to dislike elves a lot for a lot of reasons that I'm too lazy to explain (he is smart enough to know that there are cool guys everywhere no matter the race, culture or anything at least, he mainly judge people after some time spent with them)

He was originally in AD army but his pov on elves led his path as a mercenary for all alliances in the war, and now all alliances hire him for his efficiency, they cared much about spying and other stuff at first but due to his specific position in Alliance War, and after some successful contracts as well as the reputation he built, they became less aware for this kind of stuff.

Most members in different alliances despise him for his way of living - especially AD members due to the fact that he comes from there at first - however he still maintain some "good" relations with few soldiers in each faction, but never try to attach himself too much, the next week they could become his target, and he must be relentless.

Honestly, if you take away the RP part, that's pretty close from my own pvp experience in Cyro as a soloplayer that used to relog a lot in different factions, and still play in a different faction each month.

My first toon was a nord, so I chose EP.

That toon was deleted years ago and I got the any race/any faction thing in the crown store so I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

Lol I usually pick AD because the distance between the Harbourage and the main quest trigger point where the Prophet appears is the shortest. Saves me time on levelling. EP is the worst for that.

    Think back to elementary school:

If you’re the type to remind the teacher to assign homework to the class, play DC

If you’re the type to show up late to all your classes, never turn in homework, fail your exams, and be 5 years older than everyone else in your grade, play EP.

And if you’re off to the side eating glue, play AD.

However your reasoning is very logical.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I personally picked DC due to a few reasons including but not limited to those below.

One of which is that I played Halo and Destiny so I have a huge nostigila for fighting for and defending humanity (I guess this can be an argument for EP due to the Nords).

Another reason is that I am more interested in Breton and Redguard culture than the other races. I guess I was interested in Altmer culture too, but not as much now.

DC faction, is a failed faction or doesn't exists in the original TES lore and made recently for the mmorpg reasons or for lol's. Also, all the DC races truly hate each other.

EP faction, had a lore to kill off the akaviri but it was mostly Dunmer killing or driving the akaviri out. So, it's only the Dunmer that played a major role in defeating those snakemen with the help of the living gods.

AD faction, well.....it exists and is stronger than ever in the Skyrim period. I would say, this faction is the true faction that exists in the TES lore before The MMORPG version. Also, Altmer or thalmor can brainwashed ppl to do their bidding by which the kahjiit and bosmer were a victim.
