I bet that one EU employee that's hosting the servers at his mom's house got drunk and lost the key to the basement where the servers are located, hence the delay... Zos, at least make a copy of the keys and give it to his mom so you can have a backup. It's just a 10 euros investment...

If the patch is downloading already and now is extended, will it mess it up? Mine was at 18%.

Dont worry, the crazy lagfest found its Way over the Pond:) I life in Europe but Mai(cp1046) PC/NA and have another Presence on PC/EU with now cp613. I played from Friday till Monday Morning with only minimal Breaks, Friday Night, PVP on NA was so laggy, even far more then usual, it was like we jumped back 2 Years. Then Saturday, i had Endless Loading Screens and/or Extreme Spikes in Instances like Delves, Houses ect, random disconnects back to Log in Screen without Explanation ect on PC/EU. I got so bad that i switched to PC/NA to do stuff. Sunday, afternoonish my Time, so around Lunchtime EST, the very same Problems began to emerge on the PC/NA Server. This got so bad that i had 2 to 3 Disconnects in 1 Hour on NA and coulnt even proper load EU, got so bad that i played around Van Helsing, just to let my Anger out on Hordes of Enemys :) I do really hope that the Server Performance Plans are worth the Wait, the first Part, updated Activity Finder we can test out, hopefully, today/night :)

Dude, it was so bad I was forced to watch a Gerard Butler movie ....

    ... and actually enjoyed it

    Such is life.

Guys it could be worse. ZOS could pull an Elite Dangerous on us and make the servers live, complete with literally every activity crashing your entire system, never mind the game...

I commend ZOS for keeping the game offline. FD on the other hand just told us to shove it and BUY ARX.

Nah'. I have a lot of respect for ZOS. They're not perfect, far from it, but they are honest compared to a lot of devs' I've seen in my gaming life.

For those who enjoy combat and have spent time with the latest patch on the PTS, extended maintenance is more like a reprieve. Reception for this patch won't be pretty.

Excuse you, I need something to read at work and was looking forward to the flood of drama.

I have the PTS so I've already made peace with the patch, but others are not so fortunate.

3 more hours.. seems like the new LFG system broke before they even could test it for the first time as they always do before releasing new patch. Heading out that is. Ight imma head out.

I wouldn't even mind a 12 hr maintenance if I knew after launch we could have a bugfree patch but... they can't we know that , so the sooner they run servers sooner we can find bugs and get rid of them faster ..

No it will be fine. They actually have to enable the download, so if it was a issue you would not be able to download it.

According to the German Community Manager, they have Stuff written in the Patch Notes that now does cause Problems, so only when they know what actually gets Live they will release them

Obwohl ja Patch Notes inzwischen trotzdem nett wären. Da könnt man sich zumindest schon mal was angucken.

I bet you guys dont even understand what goes into game maintenance.

Listen as a former game developer i can tell you first hand all this isnt as easy as you think. There are buttons that need pressing and switches that need switching(sometimes many buttons and switches), you have office drama which cant be ignored(looking at you gilliamtherogue lack of fashion), laying down voodoo circles that keep wrobels ghost in his jar . Also sometimes you have to reset internets which are very important to maintaining a popular video game.

So please let these people work on our game k?

I really wonder if it might be better when they just take the servers offline for a period of days, weeks even to fix things (extending everyones eso + time of course)

Will the Dragon Treasure box be extended for another day because of the downtime? It ended at 10 AM but I know a couple of people who hadn't claimed it yet and were planning to do so when the server came back on this morning.

it starts in the morning hear as well so how in the world can i start morning for you oh yeah if you are like me who have to get 0200 to get to work and then you still cant play before bed never had this problem in any other mmo all it is is a cost saving measure and a poor one of that

It starts at 3 am (which I consider night), and usually goes until 11 am, which is very firmly morning. Most work days are 8 am-5 pm. The end of maintenance and then the initial usage of the new patch falls squarely during that work day.

I have to admit, I can't really understand the angst and ire that a lot of you have posted here in this thread. Some of them are pretty fun, though - a little levity is never a bad thing! :)

As a software engineer for almost 30 years, I completely understand why launching/deploying a new version of an application such as ESO can take quite a bit of time, especially when rolling out a substantial update which combines new DLC, new gameplay features, bug fixes, etc
    • Testers will never be able to catch every use-case. Doesn't matter whether the testing is automated, performed by humans, or both.
    • With a multi-user/multi-tenant/etc application like ESO, scaling the hardware environment (server farms, backend web services like marketplace stuff, etc.) factors into things considerably.
    • Data conversion, when necessary to move from one version to the next, has the potential to also add to the time significantly. We saw this not so long ago with one of the updates, though I can't remember which one it was exactly.
    • Murphy's law: "What can go wrong, will go wrong." There is always the unexpected.

Sometimes, being a software engineer, devops resource, etc. can really suck. Really. Like a lot.

Trust me when I say that the folks responsible for getting this new version up and running are under a lot of pressure from everyone: their management team, existing players, and even each other. The reality is that they suffer revenue loss when there is downtime - they want this thing up and running as much as we do, if not more.

Personally, I really want this thing to go live as soon as possible - I'm ready to play! But I try not to take it out on them here, as I've been there countless times over the years (and actually dealing with a similar situation with a mission-critical software deployment we are doing right now for a client).

Of course, that being said, I completely understand gripes about long-standing bugs not being addressed. I think that is a fair argument, for sure.

    Just my 2cp.

EDIT: Of course, right after I post this, I realize the server is live now lol. Off to check it out now :)

Whatever. I don't come onto the forums very often. I was simply sharing my views. Don't like them? That's a "you" problem, not a "me" problem.

No need to be snarky about it. Seriously.

Just an observation on the many posts at patch time....and from more than just you. Just read up a bit further. It's hilarious, really. No need to be so triggered, especially when I prefaced it with "levity."
