Magdk, sustain and the future

Just finished levelling and equipping a magdk after mostly playing sorc, her sustain is awful and damage output only about the same as the sorc.

Come the next patch do people think the combustion changes will be enough or with the cost increases will you be running dry on every trash pack.

Dressed in mothers sorrow body, grothdar, elemental succession front bar maelstrom back bar, admittedly not all in best traits.

Dark elf atm but unless sunspire starts dropping stuff other then yolnakhriin may have to race change to breton which is a shame because she looks cool (dark elf used to be best dk and now poop)

There’s your sustain issue right there ... running all damage gear sets with no recovery.

Not saying you have to change sets, but you might want to check jewelry enchants, CP, or other sources outside of gear. Or swap out one of those sets for something more manageable.

Yep, but doesn't change the fact that dk does poorly on the damage to recovery ratio compared to my sorc.

I can sustain on my sorc in bsw/ms with the same damage output non vamp and altmer with blue food.

For the dk will try vamping first (don't really like vamps but...) and try to pick up fgd

But haven't seen the rules for getting the full 10% out of the flame debuff but expecting them to be as much of a straight jacket as 3300 spell damage.

Not every character and class is the same so yes that does change the fact that there is different recovery ratio between your sorc and your dk.

And why should it??

Dragonknights, by nature, are a tough brawler class ... adept at tanking, defense, and taking damage.

You’re looking for a high damage, high sustain, Dragonknight ... without having to change your playstyle. You know those are unrealistic expectations, right?

You don't have to race change to get more recovery.

You just need to do one or more of the following until you find your sweet spot:
Mundus
Enchants
Sets
Potions
Heavy attacks

Sure there are certain combos of gear and races that push out a small % more damage than others however it's not worth the chase unless you are in the top % of elite players.

Admittedly i do need to practice medium attack weaving and have already stated i am going to be making set changes, even if i don't pick up fgd in order to meet the debuf requirements likely to swap out ms at least in the short term.

Any set suggestions that fit well until then? I like the succession set and would like to keep it.


Will admit i was whingeing a bit about being underwhelmed by it (magdk)

But I was more wondering what experienced dk players thought of the combustion changes and if they thought they would be enough to at least make it doable with the cost increases.

Dk sustain is tied to rng burning status effects and using your ulti on cooldown, other classes have better more reliable sustain over time or just straight up cost reduction. When they actually test dk you can see them trying to fix combustion with bigger numbers and no cooldown but in the end its just a poorly designed rng passive that falls short of being "Good". Being the dot class and dots getting a heavy nerf AND cost increase it makes the class feel flat out bad. Its going to be fun playing a heavy attack simulator next patch. You can tell they balance with the expectation of everybody wearing False god raid gear..

Don't forget to use your Ulti frequently. It's part of the DK suatain system.

I dropped Sorrow and equipped bright-throat. Im happy enough but i only play with myself

Try BSW, it’s a great set. Sets like mother’s sorrow only shine in good trial groups.

Got bsw on my sorc, which is the only thing i have trial ready atm.

Succession i am getting about 65% uptime on similar to bsw and the only damage abilty not covered is entropy which is getting lost next patch anyway.

Will casually farm another bsw staff.

Have gone vamp and am farming bright throat and probably slap fgd on the sorc when i get it freeing up the bsw for the dk.
