Any other way to get Vet Malestrom weapons then doing it?

Do normal MA till you can name every mechanic on each level. Then start the slow process through VMA.. Getting one shot too much? Get more health. Having trouble with a boss? Learn when and how you are getting killed. Sometimes its fine to be a coward, sit back a bit and heal up.

Got it on during the event from the leader board box. And only cleared it three times. Got my bow, dual wields and the inferno during those three. Never went back.

I'm really bad at grinding. I can't even do a regular vet dungeon more than 2-3 times in a row even if I'm really after a piece of gear or monster helm.

Best way I've found to do it is to just run it once or twice when you have the time. vMA once a day isn't too bad, you don't get burned out, and you should eventually get what you want. During the Wrothgar event, as people have said, if you can stomach more runs than one a day, that would be the time to really grind.

If you just want the staff you could farm vma on a magicka pet sorc. Would be much less stressful if you just want to hunt for a particular weapon.

My experience (limited at one run where I hit a wall with the poison stuff) on my PetSorc was not good. That was just plain MA too. I try to enjoy the game, not do things to raise my blood pressure.

Get someone else to do it for you. Some top raiders have vMA weapons and never cleared it themselves with friends doing the deed for them. Some have sold clears for real world money but this is less common.

If caught doing this you'll get banned.
    It's against the TOS.

I'd actually recommend NOT doing this. Normal Maelstrom doesn't actually do much to prepare you for vet. The jump in difficulty is massive, and there are things that you cannot prepare for without just jumping right in. Time spent preparing in nMA would be much better spent just learning through doing on vMA.

It's not that bad. Try it with a nice build with a lot of damage mitigation and self-heal and carfully reading Alcast's guide. Come back with more CP if you still can't do it then.

What's your magden setup? I've gotten my runs on my magden down to about 50 minutes. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not a slog. Plus, it’s super easy to make the warden leaderboards, so you’ll likely get bonus gear each Sunday if you run it that week.

If you’re interested, this build makes vMA feel almost easy. Not sure how this’ll change come Monday, however, but in the PTS, Fetcher Infection and Winter’s Revenge are both quite strong, so this may actually still be OKish with a few modifications.

Gear: Necropotence, False God’s Devotion, and Iceheart. If you don’t have FGD, Julianos works too, if you want an easy, craftable set. I ran tri stat enchants on my head and shoulders for vMA, but do what works for you. You’ll likely want to switch to the Thief mundus as well (Iceheart procs when you deal critical damage, so you want your crit chance up, and it’ll be low given the lack of a full-on crit set like Mother’s Sorrow).

Front bar: Degeneration (in this next update you my want to try using Fetcher Infection instead), Force Pulse, Enchanted Growth, Crystallized Slab, Bird of Prey, eternal guardian

Back bar: Any combination of skills, really- Blockade of Fire (consider switching to Winter’s Revenge in 5.2), Shalks (I don’t actually run this in vMA, ever. Feels clunky), Soul Trap (likely useless in 5.2), Necrotic Orb, Lotus, Elemental Drain, Netch… whatever works, plus the bear. The front bar’s the important part- you’ve got a strong DoT, a spammable that does splash damage, minor berserk + mobility, and a crap ton of magicka that can be used to spam slab + growth, which has saved me many times in stage 5 and a few others.

I’ve got Flawless Conqueror on my magden using this build. No issues with DPS checks and without using any sigils- I actually screwed things up badly in stage 6 and ended up with all obelisks covered. I was able to burn the boss without bothering to deal with the obelisks. I find magden in general to be really underrated -especially for solo play, where I’d say it’s the single strongest class- and I think it really shines in vMA, where you can make use of your mobility (wings!), self-applied buffs (sorcery, prophecy, minor berserk), tankiness (slab, frost cloak, leeching vines), and fantastic heals (enchanted growth, etc) while dealing respectable DPS.

On what rounds does the splash damage from Force Pulse really matter? And how do you get conditions onto the splash-ees in the first place?

Elsewhere I proposed to sell bundles with random vMA weapon for undaunted keys (20, 50, it's negotiable). I still hold to that proposition. They need to broaden the assortment for the keys anyway. I am sitting with 280 key now and don't know what to do with them, since I got all the monster sets I needed. There is no more incentive for me to do pledges. And for many veteran players, also.

I have atrocious rng on my character and need the staff for my build. It took me 200 attempts to get my burning spell weave amulet. As a magicka warden this trial takes a looooong time to do solo. Please tell me there is something I am missing? Or do I have to make my peace just knowing I'll never get the gear in there?

Never is the word of quitters. Jump back in there and get it done.

    You do the Maelstrom first.
    Then you get the weapons.
May Rngesus bless you with what you seek.

LOL. You guys complain now. In the olden days we didn’t have transmog and it was either sharpened or nothing! How is that for rng? We also walked 5 miles to school up hill both ways in the snow.
