Mag Sorc sustain drink?

Greetings,

Recently I’ve been having a little trouble with sustain issues while I try to improve my 6m dummy humping. Sitting at about 25k dps without ele drain or any raid buffs. But I struggle with magicka sustain using the foods that give health and magicka.

So I thought, well I dont neeeeed 20k health, how about trying the ghastly eye bowl drink. It adds about 4.1k magicka and 410 mag recovery. Sounds good on paper. BUT now my health is at 13k, so I enchanted all 5 armor pieces with prismatic glyphs (for extra stamina as well) and put 12 attribute points into health.

Now I am sitting at 17.1k health and 34k magicka (using max mag stat monster set).

Sustain is better now, but is 34k mag too low? I’m just brainstorming here.

Edit: 36k with bound aegis slotted. I pug mostly, and so far this setup seems alright.

Don’t worry about your health when hitting the dummy. Ghastly Eyebowl is widely accepted for simulating the sustain you’d get from a group in any real content (Worm, Synergies, False Gods procs, etc.). You should definitely still use Ele Drain on the dummy, Ghastly will not be enough. Then when you do any real content just use bistat Health + Magicka food like Artaeum Pickled Fish or Solitude Salmon Millet Soup. That should give plenty of health without moving any attributes or worrying about Prismatic Defense enchants.

And if that might not be enough, drink a Potion and then wait for about half the duration before you start hitting the Dummy. Helps me at least. :)

Not sure if I'm following but your recovery is increased as soon as you drink a potion, aren't you stopping yourself get the 7k blast back for 45s? Or 22.5 in your case.

You have to see it this way: For example, let's take a 3 Million Dummy with us needing about 1:20 minutes to kill it.(Time doesn't generally matter for this trick.)

If we would start using the Potion once we hit the Dummy, we would get back Magicka. But as we just started the Test, we are still 98% full in Ressources. So that brought us nothing but a DMG and REG Buff.
Once the Cooldown of 45secs is gone, we can drink another Potion, which will be badly needed at this time Ressource Wise. Eventually we run out of Magicka few seconds before the end of the Test.

Let's take a look at the Trick tho: We're letting a Potion run for about half the Duration or longer. Then we start to fight. About 15secs in, when we are already missing around 30% or more of our Magicka, we take the 2nd Potion and are good again. Then, when the Test is about to end(1min in), we can take a 3rd Potion and finish the Dummy without running out. :)

Oh right I see, I didn't even think about TTK. Makes sense.

In that example, time to kill does matter because if you had a 3m 20s kill for example, you'd pop one at say 20s in, then would be ending about when another pot was due to come up - Depends on player DPS and the target hp I guess.

But yeah I get what you're saying now, my bad!

Sorry these aren't drinks, but here are some ideas to solve sustain issues and address max health and magicka:

    For sustain issues:

    1. You can also try incorporating in a heavy attack or 2 into your rotation.
    2. Use a magic recovery glyph or 2.
    3. Use a sustain set like the popular Perfected False Gods
    4. Glyph of absorb magicka on weapon
    5. I believe the Empowered Ward skill increases recovery for a short time and you get the shield also, so nice double benefit. (There may be other skills or CP I'm not remembering right now off the top of my head)
    6. Breton race, I believe this is the best race for magicka recovery

    For total max magicka:

    1. All points into magicka
    2. Obviously sets and/or monster sets that increase max magicka.
    3. Food like melon-based parmesan pork (big increase to health and magicka)
    4. Slot skills like Inner Light and Bound Aegis which increase max Magicka a good amount.
    5. Armor glyphs to give max magicka (also gold the armor) (Infused on pieces that give the most max magicka)
    6. Max magicka mundus stone (only 1 I don't use personally)

    Health/staying alive:

    1. Food mentioned above
    2. A set like Iceheart can help keep you alive in a bind
    3. Slot self-heal Crit. Surge
    4. Shield skill mentioned above
    5. Using tri-stat pots mentioned above for quick 8,000ish health restore
    6. CP into health recovery (and there are other CP I believe that can help. 1 or 2 give you back health when you do certain things that I don't remember right now.)
    7. Not being a vampire so you have better health recovery and you're not weak to fire damage. (Lose some bonuses that can increase dps)

    Benefits to the above:

Prevents you from having to keep popping potions for sustain which is expensive and cumbersome.
Enables you use to tri-stat pots as your last line of defense/staying alive.
More max magicka means more damage and more pool to cast from to begin with. I've got over 41K magicka and 19K health and I'm not using nearly the best sets for increasing max magicka.
