I play through steam and ever since the Elsweyr update I've been getting issues which have gotten progressively worse. Once Orsinium Event started the game became basically unplayable and remained so. I've deleted and re-downloaded the game twice with no relief. I have also tried putting everything on the lowest possible graphics settings and turning off everything that can be turned off, which did nothing for performance other than making the game look terrible. I assume something must be wrong on the DEV end because pre-Eslweyr I could play on ultra high settings with no issues at all.
Presently when I log in the issues I experience are thus: My own character is often not loaded in visually. When it does load it frequently disappears or it's movement animations freeze up. NPCs and terrain pop in and out visually. NPCs take anywhere between five to ten minutes to respond when interacting. Interact-able boxes and items take a full minute to two minutes to respond. Previews of cosmetics in the crown store take five to ten minutes to load in. The game stutters and freezes when walking through the world. Occasional load screens mid-world. Enemies often don't appear until after you are dead or nearly dead. The game freeze's in dungeons and the middle of fights, the longest duration of which has been thirty seconds.
The game generally behaves as though there is severe lag happening. However, I have the in game widgets turned on and they consistently say my fps is 50-60 and my latency is 80-110. Before Elsweyr I would very rarely have these sorts of issue crop up, and whenever they did it was either because FPS dropped below 20 or because latency shot up to 900. Meaning there was a reason for the issues to occur. Typically it would only happen in cities with a lot of other players trying to load, or during special events. Now it is happening constantly. The game runs, but playing is a frustrating experience.
What I usually have to do is go up to an NPC I need to interact with and either wait for them to respond, or exit to the login screen and re-log in. If I can interact with the NPC immediately after logging into the character it will respond immediately, but the longer I play the longer the delay in their response. If they are preforming an animation, such as sweeping, they will not respond until their animation has ended. I do not go to popular cities because the game simply wouldn't function if I did, so these issues are happening in parts of the game with very few other players.
I would like the DEV team to double check the download caches they've set up on Steam. I suspect there is probably a missing file in one of them which is causing the issue considering I've deleted and downloaded the entire game twice through steam with no change. That's the simplest explanation at least since I've heard from other steam users who are experiencing lag issues as well. I am presently downloading the game through the website and will see if playing it that way causes the same graphics issues. If it does not, then it's clearly a problem with their steam launcher or steam download.
For information, it's not my computer at fault. I already did all that trouble shooting nonsense to begin with before sending bug reports because that's the easiest place to start. It's definitely not a hardware issue on my end.
