why can't I buy new moon pets with crown gems?

Very simple question really - I can buy the new moon mounts for 400 crown gems each but can't buy the respective new moon pets with the same gems.
Why? What's the logic?

the last of these types of pet were made available with crown gems after a delay...

A delay of like 2 months. It's utterly ridiculous that you can't simply buy these pets along with the crates, or when the "free" crate appears in daily login. There's no reason to delay the purchase for several months.

A delay of like 2 months. It's utterly ridiculous that you can't simply buy these pets along with the crates, or when the "free" crate appears in daily login. There's no reason to delay the purchase for several months.

So people will spend their crown gems in the meantime and then have to purchase more crates later would be my guess.
