Is there a way to deactivate quest sharing?

InfinityForever
I personally hate the whole thing because I personally like to experience the dialogue when you talk to the NPC to get the quest, you don't get that when someone just shares the quest with you. This is the sole reason I have barely done any dungeons because I want to experience the quest but all the randoms I queue with rush ahead or they try to share quest which I ALWAYS decline. However, I feel there should be some feature in settings that automatically declines any quest share, one that shows the other players that I don't want them to share it and I want to pick it up myself.

I don't believe there's a way to prevent people from sharing a quest with you. Honestly, its good etiquette for them to share the quest with group members. So just keep refusing the quest if you don't want it.

Edit: I didn't know that ESO shares the quest automatically - I learned something new today! Cool!

They arent trying to share it with you, it automatically shares when someone picks it up.

You do realize that you can decline the share and still pick it up yourself, right?

Perhaps, but I feel people should be patient enough with others to allow them to grab the quest themselves if they want. However every time I've queued up and asked in group chat they completely ignore my request to talk to the NPC myself and rush off ahead. No one I've met has been patient enough and are always in some rush, which I find utterly rude.

Yes but then once I try talking to the NPC the others I have queued with just rush off ahead and make it impossible for me to pick up the quest. I, of course, always ask if they can let me just grab the quest myself but they always ignore me apparently.

Nowhere did I say anything like that, so it's rude to put words in people's mouths.

Easiest solution is to find a guild. My guilds always let people hear the dialogue.

From their point of view, they're not rushing ahead, they're going at the normal pace.

Try duo'ing with a friend if you want to go slow; with PUGS, expect the rate of someone who has rampaged through the dungeon over 100 times and has no interest at all in smelling the flowers along the way.

As an alternative, try solo'ing; just like its a fun milestone when you successfully solo a dolmen in ESO, its also a milestone when you solo your first dungeon.

Can you give an example? I cant think of any quest besides maybe VoM that going ahead can make it so you cant pick it up yourself.

The selenes web quest can't be picked up after the first mob was pulled.

But yeah, while most people will wait for you to a certain degree, not many PUGs will want to wait while you listen to the full dialogue. Asking doesn't hurt of course! But I can also tell you that quests are (in my experience) much more fun with a friend/group that's completely committed to going slow, taking in the whole dungeon, exploring, etc... I think even if a PUG said they'd wait for me, I'd feel a bit of pressure and not take as much time as I truly need.

They are not going to remove an incredibly helpful mechanic simply because you want to read the text.
If you want to go through a dungeon slowly, get a group of friends together.

In group instances, the quest is shared as soon as someone picks it up.

Unless you have done it on that character.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

PakKat "Everything was going well, until I died"
Gary Gravestink "I am glad you died, I needed the help"

If the concern is that the dialogue w/ NPC progresses at the fastest quest-holder's pace, I think there's little to do about that except save the quest to do another time.

If the concern is that you CAN'T save the quest to do another time -- uh, can't you abandon it after you pick it up???

Decline the share and you can pick it up yourself, if it’s an instance where you wouldn’t have time to get it before the box moves just remember that those people are the ones that got to read the dialogue and you may have done the same to another person. You may miss the first few lines of dialogue but there is an entire dungeon left of it.
