Decorating outside of Normal Style

Hi everyone!

I am curious about something. In my search for decorating ideas for Alinor Townhouse, I see most everyone uses the Alinor-style furniture, which makes sense due to its location. Has anyone ever decorated the place using other styles? My plan is to use Elsweyr/Khajiit/Redguard styles. Ideally, I'll use mainly Elsweyr, but I'm still grinding recipes and materials, so it may be a bit before I have the entire place furnished in that style.

Just curious if anyone has done something like that :)

While not in that home per say, I mix styles all the time. Like Mournhold, an Orc home is decorated with Breton stuff. I even mix racial styles. It's all in what looks good.

I think the Elegant Elsweyr style mixes in well (if you are on PC NA and wish to see an example of how it can look, send me a message and I’ll be glad to give you visitor access). I’ve also used some Verdant High Elf furnishings in one room but not next to Alinor furnishings as to me they don’t look right combined. Actually, I think any style that isn’t too rough (Nord) could look good, it’s just a matter of the elements you choose working well together to form a cohesive style. I’ve visited a lovely Alinor Townhouse decorated mostly with various Dunmer styles and it was gorgeous! I would definitely recommend visiting other’s homes (especially if you can use EHT) to see what others have done, see what you do and don’t like, and get inspiration!

Unfortunately, I am on PC EU, but guess I'll be reinstalling EHT. It was overwhelming at first , but sounds like it will useful to give me ideas! Thanks for the input :)

Oh definitely! I confess I’ve been a little overwhelmed on where to start and in figuring out how to use it too but it’s totally worth it for the house touring alone and that, even more than the limitations of the base ESO UI has inspired me to delve into the links and tutorials @StabbityDoom has helpfully posted!

I always liked the idea of seeing ACH in the Redguard style due to the colorations of blue/red/gold and the house being white/brown it looks like it can use a lot more color which the alinor furniture doesn't really provide. (Outside of the verdant furniture line.)

Here's a screenshot though of what a friend of mine did to her porch with the redguard stuff. (It's still sparse as they've got 130 slots to go and are still decorating it.)

I'm on PC/NA, but my alinor is decorated like a museum and each room is a different style. And thanks for the compliments!

In case it is of interest, here’s a screen cap of a sitting area in my Alinor Townhouse where I incorporated Elegant Elsweyr furnishings (and the cushions on the benches are Khajiit). :)

The best houses are a thoughtful mix of styles. Anyone can make a house with a single style...

Actually using just one style is a challenge, because most styles are incomplete, they do not feature every piece of furniture you need, so at one point you need to improvise and use something else.

Elsweyr furnishings were a blessing for my Alinor home, because some of the pieces work well with the elegant Summerset theme, but not all. Also, the Summerset furniture is of two types, there is the "noble" type which feature that brown shiny veneer, and there is the more usual "polished" type, which has a different hue. If you want to create a "noble" room, like a very stylish bedroom or study, your choices are limited.

I love the blue/orange contrast. Very nice use of color.

This is my shocked face. :|
Taking stealth away from the Bosmer is like taking magic away from the Altmer, making Nords allergic to mead, or making Orcs pretty.

I don't think the architecture of the dwelling is that much of an issue as to what furnishing style to go with. There are some styles that clash but overall I think most furniture styles can be made to work in any architectural style. The key is keeping the furniture styles used in a room harmonious or having a logical reason as to why they are there. I have some items that don't look like they fit but if you keep in mind that we play adventurers it makes sense to display mementos of our travels odd as they may be.

Agreed! Snugpod is one of my many WIPs and it’s been helpful and inspiring to tour through EHT and see what others have done! Most wooden furniture is out of you’re looking to follow the aesthetic and be Greenpact compliant, but the Telvanni furnishing can look like they’ve come from the grahtoak itself! :)

I have used Khajiit sofas, as they have gilded wood (which doesn't clash with the Alinor wood panelling), some High Elf chests of drawers, coffee tables, rugs and tapestries and some Redguard and Nord chandeliers, candles and urns/vases in mine, but other than that I have stuck mainly with the Alinor furnishings:

I like your combination of styles and colors! Those Khajiit couches work quite well there — the style echoes the arches of Alinor and the red goes well with the shade in the curtains and the gold with the curtain tassels and Redguard chandeliers. :)

:o Love it! Gah, I can't wait to start decorating that place! I'm so close to being able to buy it.

And this looks great as well! Good to know I'll be able to mix things up.
