Deconstruction Material Return Suggestion

Coming from a discussion in the crafting forum about deconstruction drop rates, there is some suggestion that the drop rates from the deconstruction of gear could use some adjusting.

At MAXIMUM level in the extraction passive for a particular craft, drops rates are proposed to be as follows:

* Guaranteed drop of 1 improvement material at the level of the item you are deconstructing.
- If you deconstruct a purple quality item, you are guaranteed 1 purple improvement material (either item or grain if jewelry)
- If you deconstruct a gold quality item, you are guaranteed 1 gold improvement material (either item or grain if jewelry)

* A chance (about 1 in 6) of receiving a 2nd improvement material from any improvement level below the item you deconstructed
- If you deconstruct a gold quality item, you have a chance of receiving a green, blue or purple improvement material in excess to the guaranteed gold improvement material you got.

* A rare chance (about 1 in 100) of receiving a 2nd improvement material at the level of the item you deconstructed
- If you deconstruct a gold quality item, you might receive 2 gold improvement materials back

The 1 in 6 is the approximate chance of receiving double grains from jewelry writs since they've changed them, and the 1 in 100 is the approximate chance of getting a plating to drop. I'm just using those as a baseline.

Right now, from anecdotal evidence, the drop rate appears to only be about 60-70% on receiving anything. A MASTER crafter should be able to reliably extract materials from items they are deconstructing.

At levels below maximum, I don't know the exact drop rates, but there would be a sliding scale downwards (or even eliminate the chance of getting a double drop)

(I also understand that jewelry crafting is still a pinch point in materials, but please don't let the discussion devolve into talking about that please, that's not what this thread is about)

It has been a while since I have deconn'd things I made on the same crafter, but I remember the Temper/Trait/Style mat return to be pretty good in that scenario. If that was the norm for all, that would be good too.

I have always been irked about not getting lower tier improvement mats back. The again, I am swimming in Greens and Blues from mob loot decon.

As for Double Golds, or Purples, that is probably more than ZOS wants to give us, even rarely.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

From my own anecdotal experience 60-70% extraction rate for purple/gold tempers seems about accurate.

But I don’t really see an issue with this drop rate considering the sheer amount of purple items dropped in overland/vet dungeons. Blue and green tempers are so common from refining that I don’t think these should even be a talking point tbh.

Would be nice if gold items had a 100% extraction rate though. Seeing as that most of the gold stuff you decon is either a piece you previously upgraded or a vet trial reward/ leaderboard reward I don’t see an issue with increasing the reward you get for deconning it. This probably wouldn’t have a huge impact on overall supply either since I image most gold mats come from refining anyways.

Yeah, I'm swimming in green and blue materials from both refining and deconstructing as well. Was just trying to add in an extra incentive for deconstructing. Perhaps just have the rare chance at a double drop?

I don't think it'd have a big impact on the overall supply either (which is why the proposal is as modest as it is, as I don't think there needs to be a big change).
