what happened to a friend in need?

Used to be you could end up with a room at Maras kiss public inn as well as two others. But I cant find any of this in the PS4 version of the game. I got the free brochure which has led me to one room and that none of the original 3. I've tried to google but all I find are notes indicating the original quest was deprecated. but not if there is another way to get the three rooms or if they just removed that feature to get people to purchase more homes?

Should still be available. More types of rooms were added. Where did you get the brochure and what alliance was your character?

nowadays, you pick up the quest directly in front of the inn, so whatever inn you picked up the quest by - is the one you are going to get. as in... make sure you are on the right alliance, in front of the right inn.

I'm kinda sad that they removed the quest chain though even if it did take you across the zone. now you just talk to quest giver and voila - inn room is yours.
    dirty worthless casual.

A Friend in Need is no longer the free housing quest, it's now Room to Spare. This was already stated by others, but to add a little bit-- if you want to get all of the free inn rooms, I think you'll need to do it on different characters, one free room per character, and before you get one of the free rooms you should avoid going to any housing you'd already gotten (whether for free or purchased with gold or crowns) on other characters.

For example, create a new character, stay away from any already-owned housing, and head to Vulkhel Guard in Auridon to get the free room at the inn there.

Create another new character, head to Daggerfall in Glenumbra, and get the free room at the inn there.

Create another new character, head to Ebonheart in Stonefalls, and get the free room at the inn there.

Create another new character, head to Vivec City in Vvardenfell, and get the free room at the inn there.

Create another new character, head to Alinor in Summerset, and get the free room at the inn there.

Create another new character, head to Rimmen in Elsweyr, and get the free room at the inn there.

    Friends?

I know not what you speak of.

Everytime I start a new character, Its in AD. At Maras Kiss in Vulkel guard, she is inside the inn, in front of the door to the apartment she is giving you.

Aside from that, you can usually see posters hung around the main town with quest markers. Some of these tell you to go to the inn and starts the room " quest". (not really a quest anymore, but thats the terminology)

I actually miss the "A Friend in Need" quest. I don't know how it varied from zone to zone, but I did it in Vvardenfell and had to go on an actual quest to help a lady orc before I got my free housing, and then I had to buy (or I suppose attain by other means) a piece of furnishing to place in my free housing before the landlord would let me take over the place. That's a lot more interesting than the way it is now.

Wish I'd have known that earlier. Still learning the game. Have two characters but both wound up with the Inn in Vvardenfell. One's a Breton, the other is a Dummer. Would have preferred to get an Inn Room in each of their home areas or, at least spread out a bit so I can more easily "explore".

So, no way to unlock other Inn rooms without creating new characters?

Yeah, I miss Bulag Idolus and how she used a Breton stableboy to butter her bread.

Nope, but you can just make them, get the rooms, then delete them if you don't want to play that many.

Actually, yes you can. Just go to the crown store and get the quest from the quest starters section.

You can just buy them for like 1000 gold.

Just found that out, although it was 3000 gold, but that's OK. I can now start accumulating rooms at various Inns until I'm ready for a more "serious" house.
