Just found this documentary about The Elder Scrolls series. I found it really interesting so I share it.

Talking about ESO

<<The entire experience feels like an MMO modified to be more like The Elder Scrolls and not the other way around.>>

Watched it a couple nights ago, was very well done. Last night I was watching an older (2017) interview with Julian LeFay done by the same guy. While I was watching my girlfriend sent me this link: The designers of the original Elder Scrolls are making a new RPG.

I find ESO to be single player experience with elements of MMO on my side. Especially early ESO days back in 2014.

I started playing Daggerfall Unity recently and it’s amazing. I wish more modern games had meaningful RPG elements to them.
    With cold regards,

I'm actually looking forward to this.

The RPG genre needs to step back to its roots. We've lost so much.

The MMORPG genre followed the same path. Time to time when I ask myself the question: why do you seem less motivated when playing ESO than other games from the same genre?

I get the answer: It's because I don't believe it at all, to me ESO feels like I'm playing a game based on a fantasy world, I'm not really living IN a fantasy world. This is the ultimate goal for an MMORPG.

It takes me to set mental tricks for myself and somehow going out of my ways to "force" myself to believe it.

Well said. This is exactly how I feel.

Not really a fan of videos, but I might take a gander of it later.

Game development has changed over the past decade because some folks decided they would use games to squeeze money out of people who love gaming. All the major game publishers are more or less guilty of this. Instead of simply developing a good game, they compromise the quality of their games by designing them from the ground up with methods of monetizing them heavily. Unfun mechanics get introduced like pointless time gates and grinds. Content gets removed outright so it can be sold back to the user at a premium. And so on and so on. In the midst of all this, smaller developers - many of whom are peopled by the masterminds behind our beloved franchises in the first place - want real video games back and are making real video games for us. Thank gods for that. There will be more proper RPGs and many have already been released. Proper RPGs that haven't dumbed down RPG mechanics. Proper RPGs that maintain meaningful story choices and deep lore. Proper RPGs that realize RPG is stands for "role-playing game" not "role-playing gambling" and that RNG loot grinds have no place in them. Also, no, that giant rat you killed had nowhere to put that RNG-generated sword anyway, so please just stop. Stop.
