Quest: "Restore the moonlight blade" is borked!

I'm at the part where you talk to Vastarie and then Shando-ri.
I'm supposed to restore the moonlight blade by killing mobs.
I go outside and kill mobs in the designated area and nothing happens.
I was told that I would get an indication of progress on screen, but nothing. One guild mate said that the ghost, Shando-ri should also be present as you proceed.
I'm guessing this is the end or quite near the end of this chain and I don't want to have done all the previous steps just to not be able to finish.
