I've long since known that you can receive shared experience for your group members' kills while being dead.
This is nothing new - in particular, anyone who plays PvP probably knows that quite well.
But today I've found an entirely new way of earning XP while dead (in PvE): location discovery!
Went to Wrothgar on one of my alts. Two Rivers Wayshrine.
Made a beeline towards Fharun Stronghold to grab its map marker + the boss map marker along the way.
What followed was a fairly typical situation of "hmm, let's jump off this cliff while riding a fully levelled horse at max speed + Rapids", followed by "oh
@$#%&!".
My character landed on the rocks by the river, immediately dying from the fall - but bounced off the rocks due to his forward momentum, and fell into the river ahead (while already being very dead at this point).
That forward bounce carried my (still quite dead) character far enough to now qualify as being inside the boss "arena", and the boss' healthbar showed up, replacing the compass.
You can probably imagine my amusement when the game subsequently awarded me with an XP tick for having "discovered" The Mad Ogre's Altar
