with the cost increase and damage reduction on almost all the aoe abilities, im think that zos no longer wants us to be spamming them on single target fights. you see im think that they are thinking with the cost increase and damage reduction it will no longer be feasible to use them on single target fights. but I think I have a better solution to this, instead of nerfs why not make it so when you use an aoe effect on 1 or 2 targets it does 75% less damage and cost 75% more, but when you use them on 3 targets or more you get no penalties.

well that's my 2 cents call me stupid if you wish or call me a genius doesn't matter to me either way.

They buff things to then nerf them in the next update so it seems they don't actually know what's going on themselves.

    Because that's needlessly complicated?

I assume they buffed the skill to bring them on par with all the other so they can nerf them together when the new chapter is there.

Increasing and decreasing the game dynamics is crucial to keep the game from being mundane. Thus making players adjust and adapt to the new changes. Just roll with it and let the professionals do their jobs. ;)

One theory is they intentionally overshot the mark on Entropy to sell Mage Guild skill lines. And it probably worked, too. So they might be crazy like a fox.

Nah, they had the silly idea to buff skills according to a formula. Structured Entropy is overtuned. Soul trap too. Instead of dialing back those to skills, they nerf all dots down to the same formula.

Eventually they’ll do the same to all skills, sets etc. They call it balance. Me personally I’d be satisfied if they had some truly effective performance patches.

5 or 10% here and there, maybe the introduction of stronger sets accompanied with a slight nerf to existing meta sets, sure. Not sweeping 50+% nerfs to an entire mechanic across the board, and certainly not redefining what an entire class identity should be in a single patch.

Not even once they showed that they understand that zerg is a problem, in order to proceed to come out and say: we will nerf mindless AoE spam.

Instead they do random things like saying "single target dots underperform" /soul trap /entropy.
Then they say DoTs overperform and proceed to make them worse than that time they pointed out that they underperform.

Zos cannot single target out and correct obvious, specific mistakes. They just go all out. Mindlessly. AoE nerf hammer

That only works when a game is rolled out and fixed immediately when there's a bug. ESO is like the check engine light that has been on in your car for months and then when you finally realize you need to fix if, it's already too late because the car becomes non repairable.

their balancing method is a seesaw. Either you're doing 160% more or less dps, or you fell off and they forgot you existed so you slide by and then eventually get put on the seesaw and sit at the bottom for 3 years.

I've learnt to keep the same build. If it's nerfed one patch, next one it will do great. So I've practically stopped tinkering with it every patch.

Incase you haven't noticed there's a war going on and this not a battle royale so complaining about zerg is just as dumb as saying how neat IC design is.

I agree. It's a war. You can't expect an enemy force to not attack you if you have less numbers. They will always take advantage. Just like in real life.

Well, I think they're getting ready for Spell crafting. That's why I think they've made all single and AoE target spells do the same damage across all classes.

And of course, Spell crafting is going to allow you to make the best spells for DPS.

My guess is, they are trying to reduce lag spikes and bring some content on the table for players like NERF one skill or class and vicr versa.

Making skills' damage scale off the number of targets hit - somewhat like proxy detonation, but as a standardized skill feature for most or all AoE abilities - could introduce some very nice layer of complexity to AoE DPS.
It would require some hard number crunching to make sure it stays balanced across PvE content and PvP, most likely too much development effort would have to go into developing this idea for minimal returns.
