How do I meaningfully block a person on the forum?

In conclusion this thread shows exactly how entitled some players are. Like I didn't know that already.

    Lolwut?
... just people who get on my nerves for one reason or another ...

    Oh.
... Which increases the chance of me leaving a snarky reply ...

    OP's concern checks out.

Because they tend to get on my nerves when I read them, that's why. Which increases the chance of me leaving a snarky reply, making both of us aggravated.

Funny thing though I'm not even talking about forum trolls, just people who get on my nerves for one reason or another and it would serve both of us if I couldn't see them.

I use Ignore as a reminder. It reminds me that there is something about them. Sometimes it is because I actually want to read what they say and "ignore" highlights them so I notice. Mainly, they ... well, let's just say I feel my brain cells screaming in pain. Oddly enough, those that aggravate me the most tend to leave. Or, get banned.

The only thing that bugs me is that it does not warn me when they create a new discussion. For one person, I had to listen to my brain cells scream as I started to read new discussions they started. Then I looked at the name, and left the thread. Thankfully, that person left the forum.

I think it is best if the people on ignore do not know they are on ignore. If suddenly all the postings from someone vanished, they would know they have been ignored.

You have an excellent block feature built in your own brain. It lets you really ignore people that you want to ignore.
Best thing about it is : you can configure it the way you like, it's customizable ad infinitum.

Only thing is, it requires some discipline and willpower. But you get used to it.

As to the part where you don't want then to see what you write, there are two options :
    - Don't talk in public at all (yeah right it prevents you from talking to everyone else, I know, but you can't have it all)
    - Or simply just ignore the fact that they can read what you write, after all, if you really ignore them (using your brain) you shouldn't care at all.

I know some trolls excell at provoking anyone in order to break the brain-blocking. See it as a fight and go on ignoring. Only way to beat them, and works very well. A troll without a prey moves on.

If you are going to create a thread or make a post in someone else's thread then you are asking for it to be available for all to see by basic definition of participating in the forums.

So when you block someone you actually have to actively choose to see their post unless it is the first post in a thread they create. It also blocks them from sending you mail, iirc.

That is as far as it goes and as far as it should go.

Here's the thing though, I do not want to see their OPs either. There's a couple of people on here I never want to interact with again, ever. And my memory for names aren't really that grand so I put them on ignore so I can recall not to do that and really, not clicking to look at their bs in the comments is easy. That's the main problem, I really care less if they can see and interact with my stuff. It would be a nice bonus and all, but it's very secondary. But I wish the ignore/block function extended to OPs so I didn't have to see those either.

If you do not remember their name then how is seeing their OP an issue?

But seriously, if you notice the person who created the thread was on your ignore list then close that thread. If you see a post grayed out showing that the person is on your ignore list do not click on it.

The ignore list is so they cannot troll you and if you cannot see their posts then you lose the power to report them for trolling you. At that you should not have the right to prevent them from seeing your comments made in what is essentially a public forum. In other words, there is good reason for you to be able to choose to see what they post.

Because they tend to get on my nerves when I read them, that's why. Which increases the chance of me leaving a snarky reply, making both of us aggravated.

Also how is it that they can't troll me when they're perfectly capable of seeing anything I write in the forum?

Funny thing though I'm not even talking about forum trolls, just people who get on my nerves for one reason or another and it would serve both of us if I couldn't see them. But apparently you're against minimizing pissiness on gaming forums. Got it.

Being able to block someone is more a protection so they cannot bother you with trolling or harassing you. However, what you are describing here is not their actions towards you but more of a self control issue and that is not something that we should reasonably expect Zos to handle for us.

This is not about entitlement either. Just stating the facts since ignore feature is something that you control to begin with. I suggest maybe spending less time in the forums considering your account is a mere few months old and it is already getting you very upset.

Now I'm semi-seriously trying to figure out which Daedric Prince you'd want to ask for aid.

Hermaeus Mora, because he seems like the sort of Prince who patronizes Internet Forums?
Clavicus Vile, because he's the one who grants wishes, albeit in not-exactly-what-you-wanted ways?

click their name, and on their profile there is an icon with a person and an arrow. Click "ignore"

EDIT: Upper right, under the search bar, near the message button.

Which produces the result described in my OP. Not what I'm looking for. I meant one where I will never see this person again, or anything they write.

Well, you can technically write a browser add-on, scan for their names (title with their name), and remove it that way...

You do control your browser after all, lol.
