What makes you go up in level on the forums?

After reading that one dudes post about reaching lvl 3 on the forums, what exactly are the criteria?

as far as i know everithing counts -

posts, replies, agrees, awesomes etc

the only thing that number of stars actually

shows is how much time you've wasted here =P

So its an automatic process, there arnt any mods sitting there and actually promoting?

There's a point system on the forums. Upvotes of any variety (Insightfuls, Agrees, Awesomes, and LOLs (discontinued)) all award points. I'm unsure if accepted answers or posts count (but, I doubt it.)

You level up when you pass certain point thresholds. I'll try to dig it up.

2k points per level, iirc but I am probably wrong about that. You get points for every post you make, when an answer you provide is accepted as the answer for threads that are questions. Also for every Insightful, Agree and Awesome someone give you. There are also badges you get for the various activity that provide points.

In the end I would not stress about them as having more stars does not mean an opinion is better than someone else that has fewer stars..

In general, more stars= more opinionated.

They could have a title system Like:

1 star: only visits forums to read opinions of others.
2 stars: only posts when they have something meaningful to say, etc

up to 8 stars: lives on the forums and has dedicated their lives to battling in the forums and having an opinion on everything, nothing is beneath their comment threshold.

(this is obviously meant in jest for the less gifted amongst you).

Pretty sure that's not completely correct.

One sec:

You've got 1827 points.

You have 119 Insightfuls, 1,133 Agrees, and 313 Awesomes.

If those each count once, that leaves you with 262 points unaccounted for, which is way less than your 632 posts, and 2 discussions.

I was willing to write off my 1,370 points that I couldn't account for as that guy who was LOLing every post I made back in 2014, but, your account was created after that system was removed.

That said, while I was typing this, two more people agreed with you, your total agrees went to 1,135, and your total points went to 1,829. So, it looks like that part is 1 to 1. There's got to be another source for points though. Not sure what it is.

Close, not quite. Ten Stars is only like 10k. @Tryxus found an old post from @MissBizz, which is probably correct, saying it's: 25, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000, 10000.

I think it is variable. I've noticed that earning a badge can make my points jump up a bunch. Could just be me mis-remembering though, dont really pay much attention.

You're probably right. I've been trying to use @Darkenarlol's badges to even out the math and it just doesn't seem to fit.
