As someone who studies language, I've noticed some patterns, some common post tropes/types on these here ESO forums. So I decided to compile a working taxonomy of forum posts, cuz science. This list is in no way exhaustive, so feel free to add.
1. Nerf threads (by far the largest portion of posts)
-Overwhelmingly poor-to-mediocre PvPers who died to something; 90% could glibly be answered with "get gud" and learn some counterplay. Most annoying post type by a mile.
2. Event-related whine threads (ebbs and flows)
-Especially prominent during PvP events cuz casual players need more mounts. Even when we need to grind for them, and even though they function the same as every other mount...we are
hamsters in a wheel
3. Second-channel customer service demands (rare, but often sparks the posts listed above)
-"My account was suspended and I don't know why?" Most phones still make calls, maybe try that! T-bagztheboss69 [made-up name (hopefully), not naming or shaming] probably can't help
with that.
4. Good ideas (1% of idea posts)
-Hire these people, ZoS
5. Bad ideas (99% of idea posts)
-Scroll down 10 posts, you'll see one; arguably this post qualifies
6. Good ideas (1% of idea posts)
-Hire these people, ZoS
7. Good Polls (1% of polls)
-The forums unsarcastically working as intended
8. Bad Polls (99% of polls)
-come for the silly premise, stay for the lack of reasonable responses
9. RP-based posts (Indeterminable; Tamriel has no concept of percentages)
-Totally fine, lots of neat pictures of toons and housing, but typically still pretty weird; add an E and that weirdness cranks up to a million)
10. Math (precious but rare; smart and studious, just like the people who write them)
-Most valuable posts, also the least read posts cuz weyr dum
11. Straight-up Troll Posts (Common but temporary; loud and sad, just like the people who write them)
-In b4 lock
12. Noob questions (Rare because noobs typically aren't on the forums, and all the
@#$%^& on here treat them like dirt)
-One of the only meaningful uses of the forums
13. Guild Ads (Obsolete, but occasional)
-If you like this post, check out my guild, Seekers of Mora (for real). We have all the craft stations, mundus stones, (usually) a public trader, and we're very noob friendly! [SHAMELESS PLUG
ALERT]
14. LF advice (occasional, see noob questions)
-See #4 and #5 to judge the quality of advice on forums
15. Patch Rage (semi-annual)
-Go ahead and skip the forums for a while....
16. Unnecessary lists
-I need a better hobby
