I know I have a lot less empty soul gems since my toons switched to this skill instead of the likes of caltrops etc. Not quite run out, but not far away.

Last week empty soul gems were 50 at NPC vendors. Can you confirm that they are now 156 at those vendors instead? That’s a very strange number.

Do you perhaps have an add-on setting that is replacing the NPC vendor value with sales price (say from MM or TTC)? Previous posters have pointed to why empty soul gems are in high demand - although it obviously isn’t going to be profitable to buy them for 156 (or even 50) and sell the filled ones for 30.

Isn't that the price that vendors always charged? It was never a good deal and still isn't. The only people ever buying those are players that don't have any soul gems and don't know that you can buy them from guild traders in bulk for less than half that price, filled.

In a world where filled soul gems aren't so abundant, there would be more of a use for those vendor gems. Players might actually need to buy them in bulk and go through the hassle of filling them up themselves. However, we don't live in that world. Most pve players have hundreds of full soul gems just through normal dungeon running and pvp'ers that don't have a way to acquire them in bulk numbers through just pvp means can simply buy excess from players that have too many. There is no real reason to ever spend 156g on a vendor empty soul gem.

I checked the price last week because I was curious as to whether it would be feasible to buy empty ones from NPCs and fill them to turn a profit. It was definitely 50 gold. Maybe the NPC I spoke to was having a sale?

But absolutely it’s not worth it to buy at either price from an NPC.

On the PC/NA, filled soul gems sell for 30 gold each in every guild kiosk. Which, is the same price I can Vendor them to an NPC.

Steal them. One merchant at belkhart has like 10 laying around.

Just went to a mystic in the Mages Guild and they are still 50 gold a piece (PC EU). Maybe you are seeing MM price or something.

I did and I just pointed out that you are not seeing the merchant price as far as I can tell. A full screen shot showing the merchant panel might help.

I understand what the screenshot shows. I also understand that 156 isn’t the actual merchant price, and I know there are add-ons that replace the merchant price on your pop-up tooltips with some calculated price related to sales history. That’s why I asked you to confirm with an NPC vendor. This seems to be a problem with your tool-tip, not the vendor price. (We can argue 50 is too high, but it is 50, not 156.)

I have just checked the mystic in Rawl’kha on PC-NA, and the price is still 50 gold for an empty soul gem. If NPCs are trying to sell you one for 156, that is a bug that you should report. Otherwise you need to have a look at your add-on settings, because one of them seems to be replacing the default NPC sale price (which should show up there) with some other data. I know there are add-ons that can do this, but without knowing your setup I can’t tell you which one(s) may be doing it in your case.

I can also confirm that Empty Soul Gems cost 50 gold from NPC merchants. This is an error on your tooltip, likely from MM or some other add-on that is adjusting the price for some reason.

So if you figure that you are going to be filling empty ones and full ones are twice as much, buy them/fill them/profit?

Are you checking a vendor in Cyrodiil? I think some npcs sell them at a different price but i can't remember. Or for different levels
