Removal of ‘auto-targeting’ from skills

I would have made this a poll, but there is already a forest of them.

So! Hear me out, in first person shooter games if you aim at something you shoot, but if you don’t aim, you can still shoot...at anything.

Also, in Skyrim you can waste magicka firing who knows what at anything and missing. However! In ESO, you can only fire a single target ability if you’re pointed at an enemy and then the game takes over. It his them no matter what - unless they dodge. Anyone seen their shot ‘curve’?
Everyone gets that, right?

So! My thought is, what if that guaranteed hit (without dodge) was removed? So you shoot your snipe and your target could have moved by the time it lands, buuut...someone else could also move in the way with a shield (or without) and take the hit.

I have other things to add but I don’t want to make this too long.
Thoughts? Discussions? Comments? Insults? Questions?

    Works for first person shooter games. ESO is not a first person shooter.

    An action combat system in an MMO would be awesome but the game would need an entire rework from the ground up and that's not even mentioning the insane amount of lag this game has.
    Overload rework. Power Overload now does physical damage and grants you the power of a tornado: You throw a brick at the target with a light attack, and you hammer your head into that brick with every heavy attack. We have decreased its Ultimate cost, but increased the chance that you get stuck in the animation.

    You would never hit anything in PvP at least. Unless they eliminated all projectile travel time so they were more like "bullets" in fpshooters. But that would look really bad so we come back to... no.

    There is another mmo this works in (I won’t mention names) that resulted in a situation of me deflecting a thrown boulder that was aimed at another player.
    Said game couldn’t keep me playing however.

    Engine and lag wouldn't allow this. Though decrease of auto-aim will be welcome.
    I remember snipe required target to be within certain threshold of reticle during aim time... now you may turn to another direction and it will still hit if not dodged/los'd. This is just stupid. Imo channeled and cast time non-ultimate abilities should work like old snipe - you must keep reticle within some reasonable distance from target, otherwise they are cancelled. As for now channeled and cast time abilities are clearly over-performing because of that introduced auto-aim.

    As someone pointed out, in an FPS game bullets have no travel time, so that concept works. In ESO magic spells, magic arrows, magic everything has a travel time, so you would never be able to hit anyone in PvP unless they are AFK.

    Yes, Skyrim was different but in Skyrim you had less restrictions and you only ever fought NPCs.

    I do miss holding the long attack on bow though. It felt natural.

    Yep... Nuked a scorpion with my Skoria meteor just yesterday...😑

    Edit: it was dead before it hit, but still funny.

    @Saelent: I would love to see you charge up a 3 second heavy attack, or a 2 second cast skill, and still hit anything with it, considering not just the cast/charge time but also the latency in ESO, which is possibly the worst in any fast-paced game. It might work, barely, in PvE, for rooted enemies. Can you imagine PvP, where everybody is just bunny-hopping all the time as it is?

    I am fine with auto-targeting, although I would like better targeting controls and priorities.

    My biggest gripe is that the target should never focus something behind my character. I hate when something moves between my character an the camera and that take priority to something in font of my character.

    I doubt one change made wouldn’t be followed by or made with other changes. I also doubt that any changes like this would be made while the servers have yet to be fixed.

    But yes, the cursing would be monumental.

    I currently can’t even log in because my connection is so bad. Few attempts ago it was +999. So I’m not coming up with ideas that I can use, just what I think might make the game fun for others.
    If I’m lucky I’ll have 15 minutes of playable connection.
