Friends List Limit

Why oh why do we have a limit as low as 100 for our friends in ESO? It has been driving me bonkers for a couple of years, but right now is worse than ever! When I need to add a new person, I have to DELETE a friend, and all are my actual friends, I don't want to delete them! When you have been playing this game for years, 100 is not enough for the friends list. I have met people who have created their own guilds, just because their friends list was full, it is ridiculous! Please can we have a friends list increase??? 200 would be great, I would like more than that really, but I know you like to torment us with your limits, ZOS ;)

I can so understand this. I have been maxed on my contact list for years. The contact list definitely needs to be increased. you said 200? I would say 500. That may be more then we need, but it would be nice to finally be able to not have to worry about it.

Thanks for the link, Darkmage! Your post is much more detailed and informative than mine! It’s such a small, simple thing but it really does affect the enjoyment of the game for some of us! It’s not fun having to look through your list of friends trying to decide who to delete this time to make room for a new person you want to add!

It’s a bit odd that ZOS don’t seem to want us to make new friends πŸ˜‚

    No problem.
Yeah, I just had to skim through my friend list last night even, to find someone to remove that I didn't want to.
Sigh. First-world problems. Too many friends. Lol. :D

ZOS is simply just too slow to respond to change and positively update ESO's service with quality of life fixes.
Instead of real improvements and features, we players get re-skinned Crown Store cosmetics every few days.

I suggested increasing the Friend's List Size Limit years ago, and ZOS has done nothing.
2 incremental patches ago, ZOS stated that they fixed the Chaos Ball bug in Battlegrounds -- ZOS did not, I just encountered the same bug 20 minutes ago.
And, we players still don't have a proper wayshrine-like option when Exiting our own player homes.
Ugh. I could go on and on.

I endorse expanding the friends list because it is clear that many would appreciate it and equally clear that doing so hurts no one. As an MMO, it is reasonable to expect the game to have the ability to strongly support the social aspects of the game. :)

That said, my own situation is entirely different. Though I belong to two small social guilds, I maintain my friends list at precisely zero. I don't like the log in/out spam, nor advertising my own availability so openly. I find the mail system and guild rosters more than adequate. I like other people just fine but when I play, it is to spend time with my elf, not other humans. The fact that ESO is multiplayer is a drawback I live with due its magnificent mass and scale that puts single player games like Oblivion and Skyrim to shame.

ESO markets itself to both single and multiplayers. Expanding the friends list limit seems like a nice QOL improvement for my multiplayer friends that has no negative impact on my single player style.

Server load would play a role in it. However, with up to 2500 people we have in guilds are you truly needing 250 more on a friends list or is it just filling up with duplicates and people you have not spoken to in 6 months or longer? My guess is if Zos actually looked at how often we interacted with people on our friends list they would find very few that needed more than 100 people.

If I had that many friends I wouldn't get anything done.

Can't you just add them to your discord channel, even better than eso friends list since you can message them anytime.

I personally dont understand how people can get anything done other than socialise when they have that many friends

I have my own Discord channel, and my own guild on both EU and NA, but although social in nature, these are specifically geared towards housing, which not everybody gets as excited about as I do :D Also, not everybody has discord, or wants that open and beeping away whilst they are playing the game.

I honestly do communicate with most of my friends list, yes. Many are people who are into housing, and we like to visit one anothers creations but as we can only join 5 guilds, we are not in any guilds together. Other people I have made friends with whilst running dungeons, and added so that we can play together again, which we do. I have about 10-ish friends who haven't logged in for a long time, but they were very good friends and I am hoping that they return one day, one of them was the first friend I ever made in eso, who despite not being online for about 36 months, I cannot delete from my friends list for nostalgia reasons :D

I don't even know why those of us who struggle with this issue even need to explain ourselves, really. There is literally no reason why anybody could be against increasing our contact list in the game, it's just an odd thing to argue against, it affects nobody, and solves a problem that many of us clearly face.

The only way to circumvent this limitation easily is to make your own discord server and invite everyone whom you consider as a friend.

    Who doesn't want more friends?

This is an MMORPG. The MM in MMORPGstands for "Massively-Multiplayer."

If one argues against increasing ESO's Friend's List Size Limit from a measly 100 players to 200, 300, or 500, then maybe they should go play the award-winning solo game called TES V: Skyrim; or, go back to high school. Lol. :D

There is no drawback or hinderance for having more Friend's List slot space.
If you don't want more friends, or any friends at all, then simply don't use the extra space provided.

Some of us have been playing since beta/launch, over 5.5 years ago, and have made hundreds of friends.

I played FFXI on Xbox 360 and PC from 2006 to 2013 (that is ~7 years, for those who cannot count), and I had 300/300 friends in that MMO. There is literally zero reason why ESO, an MMORPG a decade newer than FFXI, but only has 1/3rd the Friend's List space.

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom @ZOS_SarahHecker please rely the message to the appropriate ESO Teams in your next team meeting, whenever that is. A road-map would be a nice touch, too. o:)

Maybe some proper communication, like the kind of communication ZOS says it always plans to give players but never follows through. Prove me wrong, I'll wait.

I also do not really use Facebook, and even if I did, it would require both of us using it, checking it regularly ect. just to play together... Seems ridiculous when all it would take is an increase to the limit, so that I could communicate with the people I deem friends in the game itself!

Exactly! :) It's meant to be a social game! Having to log on to social network platforms to find out if a friend is online and such is ridiculous! You are all about your numbers right now apparently, ZOS! If you want people to play more, maybe increase friends list capacity! I am one of those people who often makes friends with and helps out newer players on a regular basis, if I could add them and invite them along to events and such with my group, maybe that would benefit you too.

How are you able to deal with 100 people? chat with them?
Guild system is the evolution of friend list. You have the ability to Broadcast mesages to all your friends in simple guild chat! 100+ also means you are able to sell unused stuff for a little fee to your friend (or for 1 gold). The same goes for guild bank. See how many perks you may have!

I’m pretty sure that those of us who have played for long enough to acquire over 100 in game friends know how guilds work πŸ˜‚

As already stated, we are limited to 5 guilds, not everybody I want to add to my own guild has a guild slot. For me it’s also important to be able to add people that I need to visit when recording videos, to travel to etc. Not everybody who is in to housing is in one of my housing guilds!

Also as stated, why does it bother you so much that you feel the need to try and argue the fact that some of us have more than 100 in game friends and would like an increase in the limit? Will it break your game if you are allowed 200 friends? Will you rage quit?

    Guilds =/= Friend's List.
Friends stay in touch regardless of guild association.
Guilds are faction-locked, too big or too small (in both size and player/social activity), and many have strange social structures (ranks) or stupid rules, not to mention the dozens of pure self-important 'Trading Guilds' that just hound players for monetary donations to keep their gold sink trader every week. What a chore. These are not friends, more like opportunists.

I would rather have a larger Friend's List size so that I can enjoy the game on my own terms, with my own friends, rather than be boggled down by mass-mail SPAM from Trader Guilds requesting more sales and donations for their self-important agenda and social schemes. Or, vice versa -- the opposite, be a part of a few dead, empty inactive guilds of ~50 players, with no more than 5 ever online at any given time.

A larger Friend's List size limit would put greater emphasis on the many social features and social systems of the game.
Not guilds. Guilds are just a cheap scheme of "Who Wants To Play Politics" or "Who Wants To Build An Empire."

Some of us just want to play ESO with all the many friends we've met across the years of the game, without measly little restrictions like a small Friend's List size of 100 players.

I was not arguing with you as it does not affect me in any way @Elara_Northwind. I clearly stated that I dont understand how people could keep in constant contact with so many people, i'm speechless at the thought. I respect you need more friend slots then it is your perrogative. I honestly dont understand how someone as busy as yourself...creating streams, building on pts and running 2 guilds plus being active on these forums and cooking and holding down a job can possibly manage that many friends. It seriously and honestly is an enigma to me. I wasn't judging I have no idea about time management then. I would love to know how people like yourself manage your time so constructively ..getting so much done. When I socialise I get so distracted. Maybe I say things in a way that makes people feel judged but it's not my intention. I'll be mindful how I say things in future. Im just a very direct person, it's my nature. I will also be very direct in complimenting someone too😊
Im pretty sure Ive left you some kind comments on your buidings and cooking so im not a nasty person nor am i opposed. By all means i hope you get 10000 friend limit list πŸ˜†πŸ˜Š

Why oh why do we have a limit as low as 100 for our friends in ESO?
...is it supposed to be a "Friends List" or a "Casual Acquaintences List"???
    ...
I think its plenty, anything more we have guilds for.
