Killed World Boss but didn't get credit. What did I do wrong?

I was fighting the World Boss at Hesitance Proving Ground in Auridon. I died a few times. One was due to lag and everything froze and I died and the World Boss was still frozen. Ok, so after about a half hour I finally killed him. Thing is I got no credit for it. I was alone. I got the loot from him. I was just out side his camp. Is that why I didn't get the credit of killing him, or is it just more lag.
I tried again, but lagging so bad, I just gave up after that and will try another day.
Just like to make sure I am in his camp and not just on the outside of it, or that doesn't matter and something is just screwy as usual with Zenimax and ESO.
