A very long text, guys. Sorry. For many years we tried to understand what country IRL a certain Tamriel state is based on. Morrowind appeared to be a hard nut to crack - some single similarities were found here and there, but no whole picture revealed at all. Finally I guess I've found it. There's a good article
here which bares some similarities between Morrowind and Israel. Well, that's a good one, indeed. But having refreshed my knowledge of modern states, I suppose I've found the one existed not so long time ago but shared way more similarities with Morrowind than any other state including those regarding Israel. Anyway
this is not a talk on policy or an attempt to prove something but to point at a coincedence only. And to count those similarities. Yes, Morrowind IRL does not exist anymore, it's been a history for quite a while, so, please, keep in mind, these similarities are based on that historical country IRL - neither its modern successor nor it's historical predecessors. Basically. They all seem to be so much different.
Ok, facts only! I'll give a certain wiki sources so you can check it all yourself and correct me if I'm wrong at some point - I've spent really much time gathering the information. Thank you all in advance and have a good day!
So what country Morrowind is based on IRL? Holy <bad word>.. that's impossible..
1. Both countries each were created by a
scientist who showed a new model of statecraft, a
hairless politician who wrote
dozens of volumes of his collected works and
a beloved and careful but also ruthless folk leader. Sotha Sil, Vivec (and his 36 Lessons), Almalexia..
2. Both countries suffered an epic
Civil war that split the entire nation in two major factions and their allies. A Civil War between Chimer and Dwemer.. Both Civil wars resulted in a complete vanish of one of the two main opposing parties and no place for it to exist in the newly created state.
3. The
Ruling King of Morrowind was overthrown and murdered just like the one
IRL. Their deaths both were terrible and they both were eventually proclaimed saints.
4. Both states changed their
names,
ideologies and even peoples'
archetypes. Resdayn became Morrowind, Chimer began to worship the Tribunal and turned into Dunmer.
5. Both states once fought a war against a
Nordic tempered folk. They lost much of their land first but finally reclaimed everything and won the war. Both countries were very proud of it. Those victories gave both countries a superpower status in their respective worlds years after.
6. Both countries entered a military Pact with the
Eastern part of their former enemy.
Another, Ebonheart Pact.
7. Both countries were the first or even the single states of their kind in their respective universes, governed by a
Grand Council (or the
Supreme Council IRL) formed by lesser
councils.
8. Both countries had a certain
political organisation (the Tribunal Temple) that guided all the policy and had a monopoly on ideology.
9. The ideology of both countries was based on just the same mottos of serving to poor and weak, just the same way both ideologies stimulated
collectivism, humility, daring, generosity, courtesy, justice, valor and pride.
10. Both states had a Ministry of Truth. Well, the state IRL also had a general state newspaper called
"The Truth".
11. Both countries have it's own
"Mother Morrowind". The only difference is in
the name of the country.
12. From Argonia to the Breton seas the Redoran Army always wins! The
Redoran Army of both states was the main armed force to support the governing body.
13. Both countries had
Dissident priests who disagreed exactly
on the same matter of ideology. In both countries those Dissident priests' ideology eventually won the argument still giving a credit to those they had opposed.
14. Those hairless politicians.. They both resided in a private
pyramid-like building. Well, the
Palace of Vivec is way bigger though..
15. Both countries proved themselves to be military invincible and unconquerable but both were eventually
defeated peacefully without a single shot as a result of
certain political decisions of their leaders.
16. Both countries suffered almost the most severe
losses of their history after the
fall of their governments. The
aftermath was almost equal too - both states assimilated into Western legal systems and economy.
17. The old ideology of both states was considered to be the Anticipation of the new one. Both countries eventually turned back to the ideology they had right before the Civil war.
18. The Camonna Tong and
these guys IRL shared just the same business interests and methods.. Both organisations had some foreign affairs abroad especially among their expat community which resided in an eastern city of a lead Western state.
19. The Ghostfence. Yeah, that enormous wall surrounding Red Mountain Dunmer incorporated the bones of their ancestors into. And there is just the same
wall IRL..
20. The Six Great Houses (yes, including the
successor of the fallen one existed by the late Third Era) along numerous lesser ones..
The Six Parties IRL (yes, including the
successor of the fallen one existed by the beginning of the Third Millenium) along numerous lesser ones..
21. Nomadic Ashlander tribes wandering the wastes of far reaches - they don't accept the life style and all that ideology of their kin, they live their own lives. Yeah, here is one of those numerous tribes
IRL. Yurts, guars, harsh environment.. There are many more of them actually. And yes, the Khan title was also very common to the Morrowind's IRL counterpart's history
during its certain period.
22. Both countries had two capitals - a
Northern one (like Vivec City) on a seashore named after those bald politicians I've mentioned above and an old
Southern one (Mournhold).
23. Almalexia and her
male counterpart IRL both had a city named
after them. Both cities were renamed after the leaders died.
24. Dagoth Vemyn resided at Vemynal, Dagoth Odros resided at Odrosal, Dagoth Endus resided at Endusal, Dagoth Ur resided in the middle of the map at
Ur..?.. Too obvious to make it, Mr. Kirkbride

? Another coincedence: these are both the possible places of death of those two kings I mentioned in the 3rd article above. MK's genius.
25. Both countries had a Molag
Amur region.
26. The major part of both countries environment was really
hard to live in.
27. Baar Dau. Well, this is a pure coincedence. Michael Kirkbride is a prophet otherwise. Baar Dau is known to be the only visible meteor in the game and the only falling meteor we ever see there. It crashed causing damage after the fall of the Triune religion into a city located to the South of the Dagoth-Ur crater.
This is the only Baar Dau IRL (their sizes are also similar) I'm aware of which inflicted real damage to a certain city located in the southern "Dagoth-Ur" region after the fall of the Triune religion (vide supra points 8 and 24).
28. Patriarch is the highest rank of the Tribunal Temple. One faith - two equal Patriarchs (e.g. Tholer Saryoni for Vivec City and Gavas Drin for Mournhold). There are two separations there -
the Old Believers and
the True ones. The religion itself was established after
the Great Schism.
Patriarch IRL is also the highest rank of the Church IRL.

the Great Schism.
29. The year of 1E 700 is the crucial year of Morrowind history. The events of that year paved the way for the formation of a completely new Morrowind, which would last 3 thousand odd years.
The year of 1700 IRL is the crucial year of Morrowind IRL history. The events of that year paved the way for the formation of real life Morrowind modern appearance and started a certain monarchy period which would last 3 hundred odd years.
30. Razum-dar turns out to be not just a name but a transliterated Russian proposition meaning "Mind is a gift". But only
Shashev appears to be the only NPC to have a name of an undoubtly certain origin. Shashev is a Dunmer.
