Khajiit or Bosmer?

Neivos
Neivos
I'm thinking of making a character based around Sneaking, Bows and (or) Daggers. A Character that exceeds in stealing, Pick-pocketing, Thieves guild, etc.
What do you think would fit it? Lore wise? Passives wise? I'm thinking of making it a Nightblade. How's stamblades or Magblades currently?

    Lore-wise? Both

    Passives-wise? Khajiit

They used to both have a sneak passive, but ZOS took the passive away from Bosmers earlier this year. They never explained why, despite Bosmer being the embodiment of a stealth/thief race in the lore.

MLG basically hit the nail on the head. As regards to your other question Stam vs Mag nightblade it comes down a bit to preference and play style. Stam technically synergizes better with the role you want to play (daggers/bows) and medium armor currently has stealth related passives. I would only recommend Magicka nightblade for the thief archetype if perma invis is important to you, which is something you need to build for. That being said stamblade can still cloak more than enough for most thief needs imo.

I play both as stamden's. 5 to 7 medium is enough for both to be very sneaky. Sometimes i use Night Terror. Maybe not BiS but a nice set imho. I try to sneak through any dungeon to the important spots and both races work. Invis potions are easy to craft for the impossible-to-sneak situations and very helpful for the PvE part of Cyrodiil. Bosmer take less falling damage, which is sometimes very useful. Khajiit is a little more fun as warden due to its hybrid nature.

    QFT.

If you’re coming from any other Elder Scrolls games thinking that Bosmer would be good at thieving, have I got news for you. For no reason whatsoever they made the choice for you when they released the Khajiit centric expansion. 5 years of a choice in thief characters. 25 years of lore. Thrown out the window on a whim.

There are no bosmers in ESO as race playable by "players", there are only bosmer NPCs. "Wood elf" race which you select during character creation is actually ohmes - furstock (type of khajiit), who have human-like appearance, but khajiit's former bonuses to acrobatics and night vision.

Some people still perceive ohmes as bosmers, and so ZOS provided tenmar leopard body and face paint, which allows ohmes to avoid such confusion.

    Your only choice is Khajiit.
Taking stealth away from the Bosmer is like taking magic away from the Altmer, making Nords allergic to mead, or making Orcs pretty.

The 5% bonus to pickpocketing with Khajiit is not achievable any other way. Many other stats can be substituted in other ways (health, spell damage, stamina recovery etc), but not 5% pickpocket bonus. Also nice bonus is that Khajiit get bonuses to mag or stam, if you wanna play a more magicky thief

Lore-wise, a thief can be of any race

Khajiit. Level up the racial passives, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Legerdemain skill lines -- Then you can sneak and steal right under guards' noses. And even if you get a bounty, it may evaporate shortly after you've gotten to the Outlaws Refuge and fenced all your ill-gotten goods.

Guard or NPC starts beating on you? Stay in sneak/crouch and keep hitting Shadowy Disguise a few times. With fully levelled passives, it's hilarious to watch them give up, shrug and walk away while you're right there in front of them.

Difficult Safeboxes in public places? No problem! Forget lockpicking at this level. Fully-leveled Legerdemain means Khajiit can force the lock faster with a claw in one or two tries!

No sweetroll on any table or merchant's stand is safe from this one. :D

Adding to that, the 3m stealth radius Khajiit are getting also can't be achieved any other way as a Bosmer wearing stealth gear will still be those 3m behind Khajiit on the same gear. ZOS screwed up big time and they are not willing to admit fault, so expect this to be a permanent change that won't be fixed at the coming update to stamina races.

Go khakiit. That way you can play stam/mag, pvp/pve on the same character with no drawbacks.

It's not even a debate really. In ESO Bosmer racials are just not appropriate to their lore.

Yeah, the greatest piece of rhetoric and logic of the modern day. I wonder when they'll remove the 258 spell damage from Dunmer because they weren't distinct enough from Altmer. As if every individual passive needs to be distinct from every other, especially when these races share a trait.
Every sentence of that explanation makes me so furious still. "Many enemies can't be bothered sneaking about." Then why give Bosmer detection as a replacement? It's absolutely useless and nobody wants that. It's decon-trash on item sets.
And that last sentence is just a straight up lie. "We kept parts of each the Wood Elf's and the Khajiit's version of these passives". Before both had damage from stealth and stealth radius. Now Khajiit has stealth radius and crit damage (when using cloak it's also still damage from sneak) and Bosmer have nothing left from the original passive.

khajiit meat is salty, go bosmerio and eat others

there was 88 pages of bosmer stealth topic, zos locked that thread.

you get an awesome passive skill that you can detect stealthed enemies which you find none, if you are pve, thief, assassin or RP player

Their explanation counters their own decision. It’s illogical. No enemies are stealth in the game therefore here is the ability to detect stealth enemies.

@Kelces Unfortunately Khajiit are better tanks thanks to their 825 health, magicka and stamina. Bosmer might have superior stamina regen, but keep in mind that stamina recovery is turned to zero as soon as you start blocking. So they don't even have that going for them. Poison resistance is the only tank stat they have and it's not very useful.

As an owner of argonian, nord and bosmer DK tanks, bosmer is hardmode version :D everything is notably easier on lizzy's potion speed pots and with nord's super resistances + ulti. While on bosmer you have limitation to use ice staff instead of lightning staff to benefit from that stam recovery bonus.
But bosmer is certainly more fun, and became more versatile after racial changes, so far I enjoy the race, speed on roll-dodge is really unique feature which is unobtainable in any other way. I only wish stealth back and to make penetration bonus to became permanent (with smaller value), then be locked to roll-dodge.
