Patch install requires way (10x) more space than needed

When the PS4 receives the new patches, it always states that I need to make more room and wants 100G+ free. It is at most a 10G patch and that's a big one, so there is no way it needs 100G+ free space. This is a big problem as I always have to delete games to get the patch, only to then clog up my bandwidth by re-downloading all of those same games over the next day or so. Can you please change the space free requirement for patches to be only what they actually need?

That's a way of how PS4 handles game updates. It basically copies over the whole game so each install you need the same space of your fully installed game. The only way to address this is to make ESO smaller in general and get rid of unneeded assets. ZOS said they work on that so may see a diet to the game size eventually.

PS4 handles updates in a really odd and at times stupid way. So pretty much, yes you need pretty much the same space to unlock a smaller spaced patch. It copies the client again and patches it. It's literally writes it over the older client. It's bonkers but that's how it works. Exactly how Apri described it above.

This is something that ZOS are currently working on.
    Q1 2020: Update 25
    Patching overhaul
Big changes to the way ESO is downloaded, patched, and stored on local hard drives. We need to refresh ESO’s patching and file manifest data to remove duplicate files and older data that is no longer needed. This will result in a major reduction of space taken up by the client on the player’s local hard drive. Console players will see a significantly larger impact compared to PC, because of the way those patching systems work
