OK, trying to unlock IC dailies on a new toon. Sadly, these quests are not solo-able for me, so I brought a friend.

1. We're in the Arena quest, almost done - one EP guy bombs us both and we have to re-do the last fights.
2. We move on to Nobles, working on defending the building... two EP keep attacking an running away until we're down to 5% on the last boss, then gank us and take the chest.
3. We return to Nobles to finish the quest... 12 "man" EP zerg comes through and runs us over. Complete with tea bagging 2 people who didn't even fight back.

Please explain how this is "fun" and how "being good" would have helped.

Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

Gankers are just like that. But to your second question, with a good PvP setup and skill gankers usually aren’t much threat these days.

Youre talking about IC which is pvp/pve , every faction does this to each other.

Answer to your quandary~ dont go to IC or wait till another time to finish your quest, go with a zerg.

The word "FUN" is subjective, one persons fun is anothers misery vice versa.

Well, so I can't go to Cyro, and I can't go to IC... how am I supposed to get skills? There's not a special vendor selling Assault skills so I don't have to PvP ever.

You seem to have hit on the point "fun" is subjective. Considering what I describe in the post is very literally the same PvP experience I've had for 5 straight years, please explain how I'm supposed to "care" that PvP is "unplayable."

    Unplayable for who?

that is a post of beauty <3

ironically enough - it also kind of answers your question...

if getting rolled and trolled isn't a part of your set of expectations, you're inexperienced...

to think that over time and having gained more pvp "experience" you won't be able to avoid some of those situations is naive...

honestly though, it's hard to explain...I fully thought I would hate it...

wasn't really too crazy about it the first few times I tried, and then - there was a Friday night and I remember at one time riding along on my mount with about a dozen other players to go capture some keep - the scene felt like something out of the wild bunch...

early saturday morning i started wondering what that weird smell was in the room - it was me sweating and funking up the place like some teenager...been hooked ever since...

That ok OP when the PVE crowd no longer has to actually populate a dead part of ESO. (Thank God for skill lines crown store). They’ll be riding around yanking there 2 1/2 .

PvP crowd has no idea the influx of players they get for that sole purpose. I guess they can go back to night capping cuz that takes sooooo much skill.

you get to kill other people, im not sure how its NOT fun. sure you die a lot but that doesnt make it not fun. you were PvEing in a PvP zone, so of course it's not going to be "fun" for you. you are not asking why PvP isnt fun, all you're saying is that you were killed in a PvP zone while you were trying to PvE, your question does not match your situation. also if you choose any other faction besides EP you do kinda need to die, so...

No one can make you like something.

But I'm going assume you asked in good faith and actually care about why I think its fun for me.

Imperial City isn't my favorite PVP experience - that would be Cyrodiil - but I've generally had a good time in IC.

Some of that is down the fact that I'm pretty cognizant of just how good I am (read, not that good) at solo PVP in IC. I'll put up a decent fight, but I'm probably going to die against a more experienced player, so I go in with that expectation. I'm thrilled when I win and not surprised when I get killed.

Another part of relaxing and having fun in IC is accepting that I might "lose progress." That's something largely foreign to PVE, but IC is wholly designed around it. Death means losing Tel Var and having to respawn at a different location. That's the risk-reward that's essential to IC in particular, and PVP in general.

Finally, while I always assume that enemy players will try to kill me - its a PVP zone - I try not to get frustrated with the deaths. There was one memorable moment when I was sneaking by a door and an enemy snuck through the door right on top of me. We stared at each other for a couple seconds and then frantically tried to kill each other! I've had a variety of experiences while fishing: i've been killed, I've had a fellow EP mistake my Daedra-polymorph wearing EP character for an actual daedra, and I had 2 AD chase and attack me only to stop when I started fishing. It depends, but the key thing for me is that IC is a PVP zone and I always expect to die.

If I didn't accept those fundamentals of playing Imperial City, I dont think I would have much fun. But I do, and so I'm able to relax and have fun within those boundaries.

So while no one can make you like Imperial City...
And while the only "get good" advice I can give is that IME it takes practice, practice, practice, which is kinda a waste of time if you don't enjoy it...

I can say that my PVP experience gets a lot more positive when I go in with a good attitude.
    A. Its a PVP zone. The enemy is going to try to kill me and that's okay.
    B. Death means losing progress as part of the risk/reward of Imperial City (and most of PVP), and that's okay.
    C. Enemy players may or may not engage me in a fight or an "unfair" battle, and that's okay. I queued up for a PVP zone and I am certainly fair game for them, just as they are fair game for me, and that's okay.

So honestly, I'm not going to tell you that you ought to find something fun or not. That's for you to decide.

Me, on the other hand...I accept the fundamentals of Imperial City (and Cyrodiil and Bus) and so I have fun within those boundaries because I set my expectations accordingly.

Skills? You mentioned nothing about skills until you replied. If you want assault and support skills go to cyrodiil not IC....

12 man group is not a zerg its a small group.

You died and you come to the forums looking for pity, nope! You simply got outplayed. You claim you been playing eso 5t years and act like a new player, quite evidential you learned nothing in said 5 years.

I’ve been to IC exactly once ever (been playing since beta). It’s the only area in the game where my main doesn’t have all the skyshards. I agree—it’s not fun there at all. I don’t care about getting ganked—I do occasionally go to Cyrodiil, which at least has gorgeous countryside—but something in me really resents the fact that in IC, gankers can get half of my IC currency. I don’t ever use those things, and I obviously have very few of them, but it reminds me too strongly of the old games where gankers could kill newbs and take all their stuff.

    No thanks, ZOS.

I mean if you really want to level up assault quick, just do like anyone else does and zerg surf for a bit. BGs might even be faster, and you even get some XP.

IC is meant to be a PvP zone, come prepared. I wouldn't go in a trial in PvP gear, or if I did I wouldn't be mad if someone called me out on it.

Imperial City is a lot of things, but fun isn't one of them.

I recommend avoiding that place unless you want to be some troll's entertainment for the evening. That or level a Nightblade. Otherwise you're just a sitting duck in there for what ever ganker or zerg comes along.

The main appeal of PVP in any game is having an enemy which cannot be predicted. Unlike an AI script a human is very random and can change their tactics frequently and in unexpected ways.

With AI you are always fighting an enemy which can never change. This doesn't mean there is no challenge its just a different type of challenge. The other main downside of AI is there is a physical limit that once you get "good enough" you will always beat that opponent. With a human, this is very rarely the case and there will always be someone who can beat you at any given time.

What happened with your bad experience is you went in expecting PVE and were introduced to PVP. Generally when you do IC you have to build considerably different than just fighting mobs. If someone bombed you they were either a very good bomber or you did not pay close enough attention and react fast enough. IC is unforgiving because of this duality. If you go in expecting PVE you will get wrecked. The fun to PVPers doing some PVE is the risk and thrill. If you start a boss fight its not just a math equation to victory.. its also a timing, planning, and reaction-based fight that can change suddenly and without warning. Some people like this added stress.. some don't.

If the extra stress of IC bothers you, unfortunately, you might want to consider avoiding the content.
