Can ESO Go the Distance?

One day I read a zone chat that got me thinking. It was about the odds of ESO staying live for decades. I did some research and learned how brutal the MMO industry can be. Thinking back, there were quite a few online games I liked that got their plugs pulled. I'm not what you call a hardcore gamer, and I don't want to spend time and more importantly money on a game that may vanish in a few years. So I'm asking the gamer veterans out there, what are the odds that ESO will at least last until I die (early 30's)?

Personally, I think that your expectations are unrealistic in today's society. If your having fun playing the game today, does it really matter if the game isn't there next year. At some point you are just going to walk away from ESO and you will be playing a different game. I've played several MMO's over the last 15+ years, some for several years, others for a couple of months. When you get dissatisfied with a game, or a newer more interesting game comes along... that's it. you move on. The amount that you spent isn't enough to keep you playing if you are really interested in another game.

I have met and played with people that dropped thousands of dollars on the game of the month, then they moved on when the next game came out. It amazed me that they did that, but it's all about are you having fun with your entertainment time.

On a related subject, What do you expect to be doing for a job in 5 years? 10 Years? 20 Years? You really don't know what is going to happen, and expecting that type of knowledge from an online game (Or a job) is foolish IMO. MMO's are probably more stable than your employment career will be.

Lorewise they could run this game for decades, no worries there. At some point it would need a graphic overhaul and stuff like that. Better servers... And so on, but just from the logical possibility they could create content forever bascially.
Here, have a chill pill 💊!

Amazon is currently developing 2 new MMOs. If those turn out half decent, it'll be over for all the currently active MMOs.

I'd personally love for ZOS to develop an ESO 2. This dev team deserves a better engine to work with.

The title ESO will survive as long as people are here to be milked by ZOS

It’s certainly not a quality game, or consumer friendly, but it won’t die even if it’s rotting from the inside out because it’s got the “Elder Scrolls” title.
