Confirmation on what causes differences in Main Quest final quest

A couple of months ago, I finished the last quest before Caldwell's silver on a couple of toons. To my surprise, two Titans showed up during the final battle. I was fairly shocked because I had no memories of Titans and Molag at the same time. Today, I finished the quest on another toon, and the Titans were not there. I asked around guilds if anyone knew why there was a difference (fair bit harder if you fight Molag and the Titans). The only answer I got was, it depends on your choice in Coldharbour. Lamias or Bosmers. Can anyone confirm that is what causes the difference?

I always choose the bosmer over the purses so i am unsure if there is a difference.

Probably has to do with how many lights of meridia you gather up in coldharbor.

Thanks for the answers I thought about it last night, and think it might actually have to do with whether you free Mannimarco or not. I did free him those two times the titans showed up. Guess I'll test it next time.

I do remember titans. I don't know if I ever did it without titans showing up, but maybe I did once. It's been a while.

I always thought it was just a matter of time, and how fast you killed Molag Bal. There's plenty of time to kill him before the first lot of titans appear. On one of my earliest characters, when I was super slow at killing him, I remember getting a second spawn of titans.

Hmmm. Matter of time is an interesting thought. The Titans did show up when my tank did the quest (but, the Tank also released Mannimarco.)..... Good thing I have toons left to figure this out LOL

I've had the titans, and I have never freed Mannimarco
