What is a good non trial set that works as a decent alternative to False God's Devotion set? I don't really have anyone to run trials with and am looking for an alternative to try and tackle vet maelstrom

There's no alternative for that 5 piece effect. You can complete vMA with other DPS sets but FGD is the best for arenas...

I guess I'm weird because I have sets to buff heavy attack and do that a lot. So I never have any sustain issues at all. If you're willing to incorporate a few heavy attacks into your rotation then I highly suggest Infallible Mage. You didn't say that you need a bunch of sustain/resource return from your sets.

To get more helpful answers you may want to indicate what your goal is. aka what are you trying to get from your set? Sustain and resource restores, max dps?, protection? etc. etc.

I will also assume that you're a mage since you're wearing light armor, but you didn't say that either. If you list your class and skills that you use and tell us about how you play, you'll get some pretty helpful answers I'm sure.

Petsorc HA build doesnt need FG. Other setups and mag class do.

EDIT: if you use a good wardrobe addon ( i dont, i use Alpha gear and stucks many time, not switching properly) then you can make a FG build for stages and then another build with no FG for bosses; as boss fights dont have many adds, FG doesnt offer much.

Noone ever did it just using Julianos + BSW/MS. Or even Necropotence+Whatever on MagSorc. You might even use Spinner's.

So... just any dps sets you'd use in group dungeons and you'll be fine. Just use Witchmother's Brew as buff food and probably Absorb Magicka on one bar. You need good magicka sustain mostly if you are shielding a lot.

Don't forget, you definitely need a maelstrom-weapon to atleast clear vMSA, it's impossible without.

I just use mother sorrow and spell strategist+valkyn skoria with whichmothers brew in there. Couple HA here and there do fine.

Crafty alfiq and necro with pet build. Double bloody mara and atro mundus. Slimecraw monster helm. This was my setup before I got FG. Will be good until patch comes

Dont kill yourself over false god, its been out for like 5 minutes and people have been clearing the arena just fine for years. Any two mag DPS sets will work just fine. If you are learning the arena, keep it simple and use flat bonus sets like julianos, mother's sorrow, spinners, etc. For monster sets, I would recomend Slimecraw, Grothdar, or iceheart. Slimecraw is best for pure damage, but grothdar is actually better if the fights get a little messy (which they will while learning), and if you really need the defense, Iceheart.

I took my mageblade on my alt account (CP160) through VMA in purple Julianos, Spinners, and Skoria (all super easy to get). It was a bit tough because of my CP, but perfectly doable. The arena is about practice and mechanics, not what you are wearing (as long as it at least passes the smell test).

Just run the normal Petsorc build in there. Necro + MS + Skoria. You'll be fine. Want to be more tanky? Run Alcast's one-bar sorc build.

It's more about learning spawns, mechanics and unloading huge damage when needed. Less about return on resources from a set.

I dont use FG although i have a full set. Necro+MS and HA for sustain. But it´s my style, guess others would find it less useful.
