How is necromancer as a PvE tank?

The only tank class i have played and enjoyed is DK. Now that necros are out, im curious how they compare to a DK and are they viable in HM Vet dungeons? Would love to hear your experiences with this class. :)

More than viable for any vDungeons run.
Lot to ofer to party and fun to play. Imo to get max of it you need to be hibrid build / little magic is always needed.
Cant tell for trial, i dont run such.
    For pvp its a blast.
I prefer DK tbh, but mostly because is my main character.
Do necro is better than DK, no.
Do is worse? Imo no, just diferent.
Its up to you which one to play.
One advice. If you go tank, pick nord. There is no better race for necro tank.
Stamina, ressistance and most importand of all is ult regen. You cant get better.
Imperial is nice too, because of resource leech, overal skill (ult included) reduce cost, and stam and hp increase.
    Good luck.

Have not tried Stamina Tank yet, but most of the builds are pretty similar
bit of a toss-up for me on whether the Armour buff morphed to a pull makes sense on Stamina instead of Leash from Fighter's Guild -- seems like it would require a backbar ice staff or slotting the Undaunted taunt in order to pull ranged enemies with the Armour while Leash is a quick point and press like DK Chains

Magicka tank with dual staves is pretty great fun; the ranged taunt synergizes nicely with the functionality of the pull effect on the class Armour buff
almost every useful buff/debuff for tanking shows up in the toolkit, having Class access to Breach, Fracture, Maim, Vulnerability (via having your party use synergy off your Totem), Protection
it is also pretty wicked fun feeling to use the health drain Scythe as a primary heal and hack away at enemies

the Bone Goliath morph to the AoE health drain is arguably better than pre-nerf bat swarm on vamp,
because it comes loaded with a huge health buff and additional methods of healing available
and since it only requires one bar to slot, it is feasible to slot the ressurection Ultimate on your other bar for when your group/multiple members wipe rather than having to time out Soul Gem rezzes

best OT till colossus gets nerfstrike.

Colossus dont have use in pve, outside solo.
You dont need that extra hp to survive tbh. If you need it, then you or healer doing it wrong.
And colossus wont save you from one shot anyway.
I dont see reason for a nerf. Outside bash aoe.

I also like the res Ult that raises three blast bones along with that res. Means you can do about 24-30k dmg in one shot.

As a healer main I can say that I personally love necro tanks, all their skills are incredibly visible and they have incredible sustain. Love running with them

Anything is viable as far as dungeons go. Also can't comment on trials -- the Colossus is nice of course, but in coordinated groups better coming from DDs.

One thing I can say is that the extra 'chains' from beckoning armor are super nice free help (you want the resistance buff anyway) but they are NOT a silver leash replacement. They will give you a few adds less to pull, but people will be tearing their hair out if you just stand there waiting for them to slowly, tediously get pulled in one by one after the rest of the mob is already dead. :D

As a main tank in a trial party idk... But as off tank i am almost sure that it is good (i never played tank in my life so dont take this as a Guy Who knows what He is saying but this is my expérience) :

1- can provide a lot of unique synnergy to the main tank for alkosh proc
2- unique debuff with major vulnerability (ultimate, i think you can get 100% aggresive wzrhorn uptime with 3 others mate si you can slot ulti)
3-easy to self sustain your self

Mine seems decent at 4 person dungeons but haven’t tried him in a trial yet. I would bet he’s a good off tank but I’d still run my DK for main.

Necro tanks are solid, in my subjective opinion they're behind DKs and Wardens though. Here's why:

-Necro root skill (bone totem) has a 2 second delay. Once you time it it's ok, but it's much less convenient of a CC root compared to talons (DK).
-Awesome utlimate generation, keeps the warhorns pumping. This may be its main edge over the other classes (though DK's ultimate sustain is hard to beat).
-Necro pull is TERRIBLE. You can't pull what you want, and it can ever pull enemies OUT OF THE AOE. I don't even run beckoning armor cuz it screws me more than it helps me.

I agree with the other posters for vet trials, seems more of an offtank choice than a main.

Dont let the forums fool you. As far as Ive seen people play necro, they outpreform most classes in both pvp and pve. In all roles...
Huyen Shadowpaw, dedicated nightblade tank - PS4 (Retired)
Huyen Swiftpaw, nightblade dps - PC EU (Retired)
Huyen Lightpaw, templar healer - PC EU (Retired)
Huyen Swiftpaw, necromancer dps - PC EU (Retired)
Huyen Swiftpaw, dragonknight (no defined role yet)

These forums confuse me so bad at times! It seems like ever class and every spec sucks and its really hard to follow people advice at times. I guess i Just got to try stuff out for myself! Thanks for your input.

    @Mariusghost84

They can perform very well in every rôle, the différence is to know how powerfull they are to be in a group ? For example necro healer in trial. Necro have more healing output than templar, but do we need so much healing ? The answer is no. What have templar that necro doesnt have ? Minor sorcery, and thats why templar is superior in many case. (i speak about healer cause that what i mastered ^^)

Now, maybe the forum is not the Best place to get an answer, you ll see very différent People, with very différent view, with different skill, with différent game play (you dont play in trial the same way that in a dunjeon for example)...

The Best way to get an idea is to understand why the meta is like that (in your case (what is my job as a tank ? What are my problematics as tanks ? Why is DK tank considered as superior ?)

And then ask yourself : As a necro, what do i provid to my group that others dont ?

If you want an answer from professional, or at least someone that is expérienced in end game content (for pve i consider that trial is endgame, maybe not you ^^ it depends what you are looking for), you can ask to streamers (Alcasthq is not that bad, he knows the different problematics of a group...and he is Nice if you ask a question you ll get your answer :))

I also advice it to try it yourself and get your own idea, it May be strong, but you also May not like the game play ^^ Just create your own experience mate !

That is golden advice. I guess it all comes down to what my own personal preference is and what playstyle i love the most! Thank you for a comperhensive anwser Danara! :)

Tankromancer is extremely easy to play imo. DK is still my preferred Tank class.
