When Steam goes bad, it seems to take a long time to resolve. The issues are sporadic, but irritating when they do happen. It has been a few months since we have had an issue.
Other than sporadic sale pricing of game content, Steam will not be any cheaper than the store here. Also, I think there is a current sale on content not on Steam.

It's cheaper due to Steam's regional pricing for me. Also thanks to everyone for replying, it seems it's not as bad as everyone made it out to be. I'll be picking it up on Steam soon.
Wait until patch day Login issues are incredibly common after updates in this game, and often happen even after maintenances. Expect being unable to log in during patch days due to extended maintenances and sever takedowns due to login issues. While Steam issues aren't as common as they were before (sometimes they happened every week), it's still an unnecessary layer of complication you can avoid if you purchase the game directly. It's cheaper due to Steam's regional pricing for me.
