So we finished putting together all the pages for the Scalebreaker Sets, and there's some really good potential here.
  • Will you be hunting for any of these sets?
  • Do you have suggestions for changes or tweaks?

New Sets

Hollowfang Thirst (Light)
Magicka Recovery! And critical, max magicka - looks really good .

Dro'Zakar's Claw (medium)
Bleeds will no longer bypass physical resistance - but this sounds good regardless because of the high Weapon Damage you can add with this set.

Renald’s Resolve (heavy)
Healing Tank? Meh.

Grundwulf (Monster Set)
Good sustain set, possibly more interesting for pvp players

Z'en's Redress (light)
Up to +10% incoming damage on mobs can be huge if it stacks with 5% of other sets.

Azureblight Reaper (medium)
Builds an AOE over stacks, but seems pointless as adds may die before you manage to build them up.

Dragon's Defilement (Heavy)
Looks like a really good Tank set with solid 5 bonus and improving group DPS via mob debuff.

Maarselok Set (Monster)
Unique set that deals damage on bash - situational at best?

Hollowfang looks like a very good support set for pvp. I could even see solo magplars using this.

Grundwulf needs a better 1 piece. Looks like a pvp set, and crit is garbage for pvp. The 2 piece needs to either give more resources or have lower cooldown. Good concept, but the set is criminally undertuned.

Maarselok will get a lot of use in pvp. Bgs, small scale, large scale. We will be seeing that set a lot.

The rest aren't any good. More useless sets added for the sake of it.

i feel as if they missed the mark on the Elemental Succession and Martial Knowledge reworks.

    1. Elemental Succession, needs a spell critical piece and should buff pure magic abilities as well, especially with the new changes to entropy and soul trap its a less than desirable change seeing as the set promotes the differing elemental styles of classes yet the game is marching headlong into amorphous mediocrity as far as play-style will be concerned.

    2. Martial knowledge teases a light attack spam casting meta, when the meta is about to be rotating dots, and who's willing to stam dump all their survival in order for LA up-times? It has pvp written all over it in that case. but i fail to see whos going to be taking off their spinners to accommodate such a niche strategy.

reworks are supposed to make people want to use them not conflict with the upcoming changes.

I don't like the change of Eternal warrior. Was an interesting set, with a unique mechanic, useful and fun to use. Now it will be garbage imo.

Dragon Defilement + Frozen Watcher might be a good combo for tanking situations that require blocking 90% of the time like vHRC and others.

Dro'Zakar's Claw seems decent, but there aren't many bleed damage abilities at all. This will incentivize use of axes and maximizing damage over time on large groups of enemies on pve content. Werewolf is dead and a waste of ultimate slot.

Renald's Resolve is pretty bad set since ZOS reduced so many Max Health options over time, so there's not too much to heal to start with. Some may say since healing is more competitive now, that it may be a good set, but honestly it doesn't compare to other more formidable sets that give group support or flat resistance to boss blows.

Z'en looks very strong. Will probably be meta. But you'll only need one per group so investing in it might be a waste of time as you'll rarely be wearing it.

Most of the cases , revamped sets are improvement or try to make them more useful .

But what I see this time is nerf too .

Some of these sets look promising.

Some of them will definitely be a part of group composition and will be worn to boost group DPS, not to boost a wearer's DPS.
Some other will have situational usage, useful especially for progressing groups.

Generally they don't look "OP" like the Elsweyr ones, but it doesn't mean someone will find a use case to make them OP :)

Some truly bizarre comments in this thread.

    "Werewolves are dead" lol.

Some great changes, making some previously ignored sets really worth considering. Some of the new sets are also really interesting. Good job ZOS!

The patch notes are a really big change so maybe people are having trouble adjusting to them. I'll have an overview of the most important changes up soon (just waiting to see if anything else is tweaked before making it)

Hollowfang will be the new healer meta for magicka heavy groups.
Grundwulf will be the best choice in PUGs where the healer doesn't know what ele drain is. And the crit is great too.
Z'en's I don't know... Sounds like a tooltip error. If it indeed does work as advertised, it will become part of the new meta too.
Dragon's Defilement will be a good option for groups without a stamplar or a templar healer.

Other sets don't seem particularly interesting.

With the changes to healing, some of what players call garbage sets might need to be looked at. As there isn't any more spamming of Orbs or springs, you have to take healing received a bit more seriously.

How do the numbers on Grundwulf work out for high crit builds?

At 100% uptime it's 200 of your preferred stat per second and 100 of the other one. That's not the same as 400 regen (plus 200 of the other stat), because of modifiers -- but is it like 300 regen or better?

As for uptime -- if we look at the probability of a crit hit in any given second, that number would be VERY high, so the only reason for uptime not to be very close to 100% would be some delay forced by mechanics. Is there any such?

Grundwulf looks very interesting to me. I run a hybrid build of my own and I almost always lack sustain or weapon / spell crit. This set could potentially change that a bit. Imagine this with a lot of DOTs, magickal on one bar & stamina on the other.

Now, I know it wont be super good and nowhere near close to "pure" mag / stam build, nonetheless, it is an interesting concept. Also, I am thinking that pairing this set with Bahraha's Curse set.

Is the tooltip for Immortal Warrior accurate? Major Protection whenever under 35% health with no cooldown? If so, unkillable Pariah/TK/Immortal Warrior troll tanks be incoming. :D Thanks for the free ulti-gen, ZOS.

@Stibbons Pretty sure Martial Knowledge is going to be endgame healer meta. About 6% group DPS gain (ST) for using a stamina skill then light attacking every 6s. It’s about as effective as Alkosh.

I think healers are meant to be swappable to a degree so maybe not adding focus gear helps people also get the DPS sets
