Newbie | Crafter First, Templar Second - Need Advice

DarkJediJin
Hey All

I've been playing for about 3 weeks now or so. I'm a casual, play when I can, kind of player.

I have a main and an alt that I want to turn into a Master Crafter. I enjoy both experiences, the combat/traditional leveling of my main, and the deep dive into crafting and leveling those skills. My crafter runs writs, is between level 7-9 on everything but jewelry. Fun toon.

My skills priority is 100% the crafting passives which are all currently maxed out. Maxed out as in, as far as they can go at the moment. Typically, every time my main ticks for about 4 levels above my crafter, my crafter then needs to go out into the world and level himself, because more crafting passives open up. This is where I need advice.

I assume in order to have enough skill points to max out my crafting passives, I'll have to level my crafter to a much higher level than 15 (my current crafter level), maybe even 50? I need a good bare minimum (in terms of skills needed) templar build that will allow me to level when I have to grind for skill points. I am currently morphed in dual wield flurry for rapid strikes. I can morph puncturing strikes but have yet to do so. And I am morphed rushed ceremony into honor the dead.

I can handle most trash, some of those low level elites if its one at a time, don't know what they're called (the brown frames around their health and armor bars). But anything beyond that, I get trashed because no passives and half magicka half stamina. My main is all magicka.

Again, Im only leveling this toon to fund all my crafting passives.

Bare minimum spec you recommend where I could level as needed and survive better, do more damage- with a bare minimum of skill points?

Would appreciate your noodle on this challenge. :-)

Thanks,
Jin

You will need your main to 160, and get your alt to 50. Your alt will match your main 160 after lvl 50. Champ points are accountwide, & cp160 is level cap for crafting.

The fastest craft leveling I have found is decon dungeon loot, if you play a tank or healer.

My main is also my master crafter, skill points are not an issue. I have a lil over 300 skill points (still have more to collect), & I have 20 or so unspent atm.

Why so many skill points? I don't like paying respec fees, much cheaper just to reset morphs.

I don't play alts either, time consuming and a pain. I much rather do everything on my main instead of swapping toons everytime I want something done.

It would be easier to focus on Templar first and do your adventuring and questing and skyshards and whatever to get skill points, and then switch over to full main crafter.
Meanwhile, have supporting crafters started and distribute the workload.
Make sure you know who your main crafter is going to be and have them use recipes and motifs.

Hey Wolfpaw - when you ask, "why so many skill points", Im not clear on what you're asking? A lot of those passives are super helpful for crafters. Like Im maxed out (for my level, not the whole thing) on all my enchant passives and thus can produce those tier two enchants. Good to know that the points will not be an issue and the main to 160.

LOL- yes, I don't like paying respec fees either, thus why Im here. :-)

All stam or all magicka for a minimalist templar build? Must have skills early on that would help?

Dusk - already have done all that, I only have one crafter, everything either toon gets goes to him. My main has no crafting skills other than the first tier of seeing alchemy harvests better.

    Thanks, all

---umm---don't bother leveling your crafter other than incidentally?
Get/craft some sets that give expedition, invest your points into Stamina, run like hell across zones to collect skyshards.
That is 127 available skillpoints, leveling by discovery of the zones, opening up shrines, running through delves even if you don't finish them...

That means if you want EVERY passive in crafting, you are looking at 155 skill points, so you'd need 28 more.

Realistically, you are looking at 137 if you skip the Keen Eye variants (which are worth skipping), so you'll have enough.

Other than that, if you want a bare minimum templar build for solo run-and-gun...

You want Magicka, not Stamina. Sweeps will be your heal and damage for just about everything, go with a lightning staff if you have the passives, otherwise just throw on a resto staff for an extra heal (not a terrible option since it's a crafter/solo primarily). If you want to squeeze out some extra SP, can queue as a healer for dungeons with the resto staff, and toss on bloodthorn or withered hand for an easier time sustaining.

    Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy.

I mean honestly, you can just throw on a set of Seducers in Heavyx2 (Chest Legs), Lightx5, some Willpower Jewelry (whatever is cheapest) and whatever secondary set you come across or put together and handle most of the game just fine just by morphing to sweeps and honor the dead for those emergency situations.

    Hey Vajrak

    Very helpful. And funny.

Stamina makes you run faster? Had no idea! First, your opener had me spit up Tecate, LOL - "run like hell". So you're saying, stock up skill points from my ESO Forrest Gump runathon, max the passives that need to be maxed for crafting, switch to Magicka- then he's on solid ground? I really like all that.

Sorry for confusion, I meant why did I have so many skill points. IMO the only things worth crafting pre 160 is training gear to lvl, & items to sell w/desired traits for other players to research.

Armor & weapon disciplines I just use tannin improvement. I'm all researched so I don't use that passive anymore.

Enchanting I don't use any passives.

Alchemy I use all passives except keen eye.

Cooking all except duration & hireling.

JC I levelled & researched, zero passives. I just use this discipline if I want to swap traits, not worth crafting jewelry imo.

It's all good, Wolf. I think for me, its less about the gear output (for now, at at such a low level), and more about I just enjoy crafting. Always have. So I don't mind. I like to bounce between the two experiences of leveling my main for combat and leveling my crafter to see what else he can make.

Enjoy the journey, it's worth it. I'm still working towards Skyforge Smith Hammer skin.

Not that it makes you run faster, but its longer that you can sprint for, and in some places (like Delves) a mount isn't going to be an option. Run a few battle grounds, enough to get Rapid Maneuver>morph to Charging Maneuver ---you'll get some Skill points (SP) for climbing pvp ranks (even if you suck at it) and get the major and minor expedition/gallop in one skill. It's the first skill in the Assault line, so figure 2 SP to spend there, but lets you get around a hell of a lot faster with or without a mount, which makes grabbing those skyshards faster, which means getting all of those SP faster, without having to worry about leveling up your char to do much more than pull a Sir Robin, i.e. "he bravely ran away!"

To gain the pre morph skill just enter Cyrodiil and do the 1st quest, no pvp necessary.

Hey Wolf, had no idea you got stuff when you hit Master on a given craft! There is SO much to learn!

    Vajrak :-)

Three-Headed Knight: (First Head)I say let's kill him.
Three-Headed Knight: (Second Head) Let's have tea first.
Three-Headed Knight: (Third Head) Oh, stop your whining. First we kill him, then we have biscuts and tea.
Three-Headed Knight: (Second Head) No biscuts. Let's just kill him already.
Three-Headed Knight: (First Head) Alright, alright. First we kill him, then we have tea.
    Three-Headed Knight: (All Three) Right.
Black Knight: (Second Head) Why, the blokes' run off!

Great info and STUFF when you hit Master. I found the dying station now that my crafting alt is in Alinor.
