Best Templar DPS sets?

I'm putting together a magicka Templar setup for running SOLO PvE content (questing, delves, world bosses, skyshard hunting, etc. NOT dungeons) and i'm wondering what sets would be best.

I'm currently trying to decide between:
Mother's Sorrow + Mechanical Acuity (lots of crits, not a ton of magicka)
Mother's Sorrow + Law of Julianos (fewer but harder-hitting crits)
Crafty Alfiq + something else (lots of magicka for increased base damage)
Mad Tinkerer + something else (high burst damage, potentially against groups of targets)
Maybe even Mad Tinkerer + Mechanical Acuity? But idk if that would be a good idea.

I'd like to get them all and try them out, but doing so would be rather expensive. I can craft all the sets myself aside from jewelry, but that's ALOT of mats to waste on experimentation, so i'm wondering what the community would generally say is best for solo PvE content.

If you have a DPS templar skill setup i'd love to see that too, cuz mine has been a bit lackluster.

I would not recommend Acuity, it works best when your Spell Crit is low, and you want high Spell Crit.

Mother’s Sorrow is very good on Templar. If you don’t have a Maelstrom Staff then pair it with Julianos (replace this with BSW, Spell Strat, or Siroria if you get a vMA Staff). For a monster set, Slimecraw is best for solo content. If you find yourself struggling with sustain, I’d recommend getting a set of False Gods Devotion from Sunspire.

Mother's Sorrow+Crafty Alfiq or MS+Julianos are both really great overland/Crafted set ups (No need to do any dungeons). If you don't want to go into a dungeon to get your hands on a monster set, you can craft your head and shoulders in Torug's Pact for an additional 129 spell dmg.

False god devotion+mother sorrow+slimecraw = you mostly one shot everything with la+spammable+la and have endless resources and major expedition. Throw in blockade and couple of dots if fighting something with bigger HP ofc.

I used war maiden + mad tinkerer + grothdaar with much success.
I've sinced changed mad tinkerer to false god, not that it's a significant upgrade in dps, but it allows me to farm or kill mobs without needing to slow down since my magicka is always full, and the 8% cost reduction is huge and helps in sustained boss fights.

Not apposed to doing dungeons for monster sets (i've run quite alot of dungeons and have quite a few monster sets). I just only run dungeons on my tank since it usually takes 40 mins or more to find dungeons as a DPS. I just need a good DPS build for my Templar since my original build was created back when i had no idea what i was doing and i turned him into my main crafter so havent actually used him for combat in at least 3+ years.

But thanks for the suggestions. They sound great and i'll definitely try them out.

You don't need Mechanical for overland RPing.

Juli/Mother/Slime is fine. Use the skill set-up I posted in your last thread and you should be able to nuke everything solo

I use mother's sorrow, burning spellweave and the helm from city of ash 2 (which can be hard to get).

The helm I find is particularly useful.

    Hope this helps.

    What?

    These are all considerable nerfs

Decreased the DoT damage of Spear Shards and Luminous by approximately 37% per tick, and Blazing Spear by approximately 42% per tick.

Solar Barrage (morph): Decreased the damage of this morph by approximately 33% per tick.

Purifying Light (morph): Decreased the healing per tick by approximately 29%.

The only actual buffs were to cleansing ritual, and eclipse. We all know the Eclipse change won't go live because it's broken. The patch is 2 months away which is plenty of time to fix it. Once they fix it, magplars will be in a worse place than they are now. They're garbage in pve, and in pvp they're only good for 1v1 and noob stomping.

Don’t use War Maiden, it has no effect on Wall, Vamp Bane/Reflective, Meteor, Destro Ult, and Light/Heavy attacks. Not worth it for the 100 extra Spell Damage to some skills, only to lose 300 Spell Damage on others (compared to Julianos).

Edit: WM also does nothing for your healing.

So far I can only get lightening vma staff to drop so my question is should I even bother running bsw?

Could I use a fire glyph and have it proc reliably from that and bank bane or should I just go with a different set?

@Mrsinister2 I wouldn’t recommend BSW with Lightning Wall. Spell Strat or Siroria are your best bet for a front bar set, with Sorrow on all the time. If you don’t like the conditional nature of those sets you could also do False Gods front bar, and just make sure your beam is there so you are always executing on the bar that gives you resource return and speed on kill.

Infused Flame glyph + Vamp Bane or Reflective could probably keep around 40% uptime on BSW, but you really want Infused Berserker on your Maelstrom Staff, and Precise on your front bar (or Sharpened if you don’t have Alkosh, Crusher, PotL in group).

Anything lesser than world bosses can be vaporized today with any reasonable setup. What I've actually used most recently on a templar is Mother's Sorrow + Julianos + Slimecraw/Grothdarr. All the upcoming nerfs won't change the ease of most overland PvE.

For world bosses you're likely to wind up relying on Sweeps for the self-heal, so the Grothdarr/Slimecraw choice will probably be a close enough call that you should just suit yourself.

    I like this combo personally:

False god + shadow dancer + chudan

    Reasons:

False god - mag return on kill and speed boost

Dancer - general mag and fast sneak w/o being vamp

    Chudan - tanky

Chudan on a Templar? Just use Channeled Focus for defensive buffs plus a lot of sustain. That frees you up for Slimecraw (Minor Berserk), or if you want even more defense try Iceheart.

I use WM with siroria and zaan easily sustain 6 mil dummy with 45k+ dps on trash pots and at 350+ ping although character is breton.
Btw it does buffs your jabs , sweep , Jesus beam , barrage.

Ok so back bar vma lightening with berserker and spell strat inferno with flame glyph/precise? Sorrow on body

I don't do trials so trying to make best use of sets and vma lightening I can until inferno drops for me.

    Thank you for the info

You don't lose 300 Spell Damage on other abilities though. You lose 4% Spell Crit across the board, and 170 Spell Damage on non-Magic Damage spells to gain 101 Spell damage on Magick Damage abilities.

It's also worth noting that heals that are based off of damage done, like Puncturing Sweeps and Swallow Soul are buffed by War Maiden, because they are magic damage, and heal a % of damage done.

For capable of Weaving Light Attacks, and who don't solely focus on Magick Damage, War Maiden isn't worth it. For specialist builds made by people incapable or unwilling to weave, War Maiden is a pretty nice set.
