About the roof ...

This one has started playing around on the PTS. Testing out this and that for her big plan for Mood Sugar Meadow.

Many lovely walls, floors, features.

One thing it is missing though.

The roof …

Why no roof sized and shaped furnishings?

What to put over our heads yes?

Perhaps it has not been so much of an issue before as Moon Sugar Meadow will only be the second fully open space. It becomes an issue now though.

This one has used walls, straw, ivy, wooden planks - but all lack a certain roofness.

Your suggestions would be welcome.

there are many roof-type things you can use, no? All of the elsweyr structural items? alinor structural, murkmire structural if you want thatch...?

i used the metal thingies from clockwork to block out the sun, then put an EHT barrel roof under it...

They are all flat rooves though …

There is no option but a flat roof really.

Show this one a single flat roof in Elsweyr. All of our homes are styled around the pointy roof tents we originally lived in before some of us settled yes.

Yes this one could buy tents but they are very big and very, very expensive - and she wants houses not tents anyway.

This village dates to the time when the people of the tents started to become the people of the walls and the roof.

Thus, while life mostly takes place outdoors, a walled structure with a roof is required to sleep in sometimes.

The clockwork things look nice but it's not the farmland/outdoors/natural sort of look this one is looking for.

For the time being this one thinks it is probably going to be a flat roof covered with straw and/or ivy.

It is not just one large house this one plans to build either but a number of smaller dwellings which complicates things somewhat.

If there were small, craftable pergolas or pavilions that would be a good start perhaps but all the structures of that kind are quite large.

You don't like the khajiit tents? There's 4 including the "loft".

I think they'd work quite nicely in the meadow.

Possibly you could also use the loft as a roof. The ramp poses a minor challenge but could be used or hidden.

This one wanted to mostly move away from tents to show an early Khajiit fixed settlement. Tents often sit badly on uneven ground also, wheras small houses can be built on a platform or base of some kind.

There will be some tents but this one wanted a more solid looking sort of little town - rather than a campsite.

This one would have built a campsite though if the ground had been sandy and the environment more like the north of Elsweyr.

as someone who does not use EHT, it's a bit frustrating not having roof options in the game.

Worked on the prototype house a bit more in the Coldharbour attic.

Khajiit loft reed might look ok on some of them - but it is very small compared to the overall roof size.

There is also a chicken up there …

I also like the idea of having lights on each roof.

After tinkering around i came to the conclusion that this item here

is one of the best items for a roof foundation. The back is just plain stone so u can cover the actual relief in the inside of the roof.Use it with platforms on both sides of the slope to make a natural looking roof and add any detail u like.

I use the new Elsweyr wooden platforms with murkmire stone walls for gable ends.

Or for something more grand, I use the Elsweyr Bridge platforms in a U shape and then fill in the centre roof shape with wooden platforms and Elsweyr steps

All very nice and very good suggestions if this one was building just one house in the space.

The plan is for a small village though with a number of small houses - enough for Clan Claws to live and to work. The small wedding pergolas might actually be a good start for some buildings as they are about the right size, though this one will need to wait a while until luxury elf has them in stock again.

More tinkering perhaps later on the test server. This one greatly hopes the meadow comes sooner rather than later - before this one bursts from all the ideas she has waiting!

We could really do with some shed or small outbuildings about the size of the pergola. Could be put to so many uses ...
