Darien is the main returning character in DC territories and one of the few recurring characters that follow you into the Coldharbour. His Summerset role was forshadowed since the base game, making him a character with longest continuing story in the game, and a good one. He is also a potential romance interest. Ofc he's popular. It's his "death" that was mostly kept people who like him a lot quiet.4 -

You might've been, but he doesn't participate in stories of all the zones he had an NPC placeholder in. And I count storyline as quests, not barely interactive placeholder.
Anyway, his page lists starter island + Auridon (I do consider starter isle as a part of the first zone tho), March and other are dlc.2 -
