Not sure how Darien is so popular. Guess I don't see what you guys see! I honestly didn't even remember his name until Summerset, and even then I had to remind myself again of his name at the beginning of this showdown.

Darien is the main returning character in DC territories and one of the few recurring characters that follow you into the Coldharbour. His Summerset role was forshadowed since the base game, making him a character with longest continuing story in the game, and a good one. He is also a potential romance interest. Ofc he's popular. It's his "death" that was mostly kept people who like him a lot quiet.

There are no NPC Romance interests in this game. Raz has appeared in more storylines though

There's flirt options, Darien and Naryu have them. Key word - potential.
Raz is the main NPC on Auridon and has cameos in Reaper's March and Gold Coast. His Summerset screen time is short.
While Darien in the main NPC for Glenumbra, Rivenspire, Coldharbour and Summerset, with cameo in Bangkorai.

I feel like I saw Raz a lot more between the base game, Summerset, and Elsweyr (I believe thats him too?).

The generic lazy khajiit with the imbecile brother and the boring overbearing mother? Yep, that's Razum-dar, advisor to Queen Ayrenn Aldmeri. Why anyone would write him into that quest except for misguided fan service, though, is beyond me.
