Am I the only one worried about standardization?

There is little cause for concern at this point.

The references to "standardization" derive from the letter published by Brian Wheeler back in April.

The intent is not to "standardize" abilities, passives, effects, gear sets, etc but to develop and apply a common set of underlying rules for the game. Doing so will make it much easier to improve class identities in the future, avoid unintended and disasterously OP combinations, improve performance, and so on.

Of course there is a danger of standard rule sets creating homogenization. But long before that could happen, the horrendous morass of unique calculations, inconsistent applications, and other things that make code writing a headache.

It's not like it's a mystery as to where Wheeler is coming from... or at least it shouldn't be.

There is no guarantee that applying some rules to the behavior of the combat system and classes is going to homogenize everything.

People cried and cried about Wrobel, they got what they wished for and now? Now they are crying about the replacement who is a lot more experienced.

No you are not the only one. Aftert this update all dots will be the same. Just different animation.
Than they will do the same to spammables , direct damage, etc.

I think there is a difference between standardizing and flattening.

Standardizing, especially as it pertains to a class system where players do not have access to the same skills, is significant because it does not create a disparity where in one class is completely outclassing all the others on numbers or skill sets alone. That's a good thing, players should not be put into weight classes and then forced to compete with people outside their weight class.

Flattening is when there is little or no difference between two classes, where lets say for example you have cloak and you have hardened ward, but both cloak and hardened ward function exactly the same and just look aesthetically different.

If you think these changes are "flattening" the game, you are probably just used to being on a more positively skewed class.

With that in mind, looking at the changes in the last two patches, they are a lot to take in. Like they have done huge amounts of dramatic changes, which in my view has not been a safe move in the past with this game. In that regard, instances of expressions of standardization in the patch notes suggest that is following a formulaic adjustment, and in that regard, seeing that is probably a good thing, not a bad thing.

One of the more particular issues is that people feel that a certain thing should be stronger or weaker on certain classes or in certain skill lines, which is fine. But that is problematic, because certain abilities classifications/buffs/etc work too well, and you end up in a weight-class scenario.
