Signs of a new direction for combat team...

A little while ago I made a thread with the idea for using a passive to change the resource skills use, forget that, I like the following even more...because today I saw the likes of the following in the PTS notes:

Shocking Siphon:
This ability and its morphs will now update their hitboxes when fighting large enemies.
These abilities no longer have a resource cost, and now scale off your highest offensive stats.
Decreased the damage per tick by approximately 14%.
Mystic Siphon (morph): This ability now restores 35 Magicka per tick at Rank IV, down from 75.

And

Restoring Tether:
This ability and its morphs no longer have a resource cost, and now scale off your highest offensive stats.
Decreased the healing per tick by approximately 14%.
Mortal Coil: Reduced the Stamina return per tick to 35 from 79 at Rank IV.

The part I’m looking at is the part that says:

‘and now scale off your highest offensive stats.’

Does anyone see this as a possible new path that the combat team is going?
I like this change, it works for both sides for the resource coin and now I (as a magcro player) can finally make the putrid corpses of my enemies go ‘boom’.

I don’t know if that makes anyone else feel hopeful about where things are going, but I’m loving where this could go.
Anyone else?

My confidence grows with each Update that Wheeler and his team have a plan, and that it is the right plan. I expect upheavals and reversals. I think for too long ZoS has added things to the game that probably sounded cool in the meetings but had unforseen consequences when placed in the hands of tens of thousands of players (looking at you, Blackrose/Training Gear).

I think the next couple of Updates will be equally contentious. But I think that after the ruleset standards are in place, ZoS will have more freedom to introduce new/unique skills and gear, because they'll behave better with existing stuff.

I do think we will see 2 main things in the future

    a) skills scaling off your highest stat making them more universally applicable - this could even find its full conclusion in the rework of the champion point system which might equalize the differences between stamina and magicka

    b) the standardization of skills to balance them better... makes it way more organized - but the big danger is that you loos class diversity when everything becomes the same...thats why i think they need to be aware of the class theme they want to go for, include unique class skill mechanics even while using same buffs and increase the number of available minor/major buffs and debuffs so that you can distribute them in a way that fosters class identity...

Aim is to get the servers empty so they work, and anything that does that will be praised

Definitely a new direction. Not a good one but a direction none the less.

I think I'm seeing more thoughtful changes to scaling and functionality and I like it very much. I am ignoring the negativity of the forums right now. I am honestly more hopeful today than in the past simply because of reading patch notes that show a willingness to really change things! :o

I mean Soul Trap was actually changed to something that new players will want to use. Someone at ZoS actually looked at it and understood how players see it. I am very hopeful!

Wholeheartedly agreed. I think these people now have some sense of where they want to go. I'm optimistic and curious.

    I agree. Wholeheartedly.

I am a BIT bothered on a personal note, because my particular build (I main a light armor, melee MagBlade) got smacked in the face again.

But if this balances things across the board, I'm absolutely happy to adapt!

I'd say they got a plan that has a bigger vision than wrobels nerf everything hammer. Right now is just the extreme neck break growing pains no one was ready for like getting a shot to cure an illness you didnt know existed and its gonna hurt loke hell. Im ready for it lotta trial squad elite meta shake ups alot of revamps for team ups gutting some heals and making less group heals makes healer more viable, huge dmg sword and board tanks in pvp taking some hits. Looking good i just hope they adjust the game itself around the changes dungeons and trials keep getting harder and they keep nerfing us every update without touching the world we get thrown into if we gonna lose 20-30% dmg enemy health needs to take a hit.

I am very intrigued by the siphon changes. A lot of people seemed to have skipped over the fact that magcro can get the stamina tether WITH ZERO COST now.
Struggling to find a new class to call home. Please send help.

    I agree.

I hope that the vision down the road means the Combat Team will be able to restore class identities because standardized rulesets permit going out on a limb, so to speak, with a few skills that have unique effects or unique combinations of utilities.

That future vision must avoid the trap of homogeneity that universal rulesets could create.

But... those common rulesets, with planning, could bring in a new era of abilities that players have long requested, such as a 3rd and 4th weapon line for Magicka builds (scrolls and spell foci?) because rulesets keep new additions to the game balanced with all the others.

I'd like to see a future era in which class skills can be specialized, while weapon and guild skill lines offer a basket of abilities and effects that are universally useful. There is a long list of major and minor buffs and debuffs from which to draw inspiration, and it's primarily a matter of spreading those around for flexibility in builds and group formation.

    here's hoping.

tbh, i think there's a bit of shared delusion here, but whatever winds your watch, i reckon. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looks good to me. Navigate the mess and come out the other side with a clear direction.

With the new patch notes; I dunno- I guess it’s a good thing? I get all the benefits of “shaking up the meta” and yadda yadda. Yes, I think the idea of making healers depend less on a resto staff and more on class abilities makes sense, but, you should do that by making other things more exciting, not by making current things less useful. Maybe it’s overall a good thing for the game? Who knows. Ultimately, maybe it’s good, but, right now, this feels like you are just trying to make *** take longer and that feels like the wrong way to combat power creep, but, what do I know?

Here’s the thing, though, I don’t really want to have to learn how to redo all of this ***. This isn’t a hate post; it’s just how I feel. So, I hope someone knows what they are doing and that there’s an overall plan. I hope it goes well. I’ll be tracking what happens in PTS very closely. Honestly, I’ve been looking for an excuse to spend less time in Tamriel, and, this will probably do it.

Can I adapt to the changes. Yeah, probably.

I just don’t really want to.

I really hope they’re finally getting rid of all the Magicka / Spell Damage vs Stamina / Weapon Damage stuff and consolidate scaling so that we can have hybrid builds and all skills can effectively used by all specs/builds.
