Bots

I’m not sure how it is on Xbox and PC but there are so many bots farming resources on PS4. How is it for you PC and Xbox players?

EU it's bad, though back in the good old days they were only in the start zones but now thanks to level-scaling they're everywhere .. I also see a lot more level-cap characters being botted on mining nodes (jewelcrafting I presume), lots of 810s who clearly don't fear being banned by ZOS.

A lot of people say they don't see them.
I think most of those are players who stick to main pathways doing storyline and quests.

If a player was to spend more time wandering the countryside node farming they'd see a lot of individual bot node farmers or bot-trains hunting wildlife and more isolated NPC encampments in well choreographed hunting parties that stick to specific path circuits for as long as you care to observe.

'Normal' groups of live players aren't capable of following so perfect a route with the timing and precision over and over and over.... around the circle with no appreciable deviation unless a live player got in the path and disrupted the targets, which causes the train to go through an observable 'if/then' decision and move on.
You can see that if happen if you kill or move NPCs from their 'expected location' and watch the bots run to the place the NPCs are supposed to be and generally ignore NPCs that are actually several feet away fighting or dead before they proceed to the next expected attack point to carry on.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

For sure. I don't know what ZOS does when I am not reporting bots, but there are times when I could easily spend a couple hours per day reporting bots. The players who report them seem to be on the front lines of whatever program ZOS has in place to curb botting in this game.

Hopefully, one of y'all are reporting bots on the days when I am busy doing something else.

I'm seeing lots, and I mean LOTS of bots farming mining nodes speed-hacking .. like having perma-sprint at least, if not faster, they can outrun my horse with 60 speed points!

How is this possible over 5 years since release, it's clearly detectable by code if ZOS could be bothered. :(

All the servers have bots and Zos is extremely slow to react to bot reports. As long as they give bots time to farm before taking action Zos is virtually allowing them to run the show. Unfortunately bots do more to increase inflation than anything that naturally occurs in the game and Matt seems rather fine with their presence.

In this, one must be careful. There are legitimate ways to run very fast, and there are players that do it. While they could be running a cheat program to give them extra speed, without having to use in-game methods to get that speed, it isn't always easy to tell from another player's perspective.

The only way to know if they are going too fast is to be one of the people who have maxed out speed, and race them. If they go faster than you, they are cheating. Then again, a smart cheater will cheat, but not go faster than max. Right?.

This is quite possibly a legitimate player farming nodes using fjords/cowards gear, all divines, steed mundus stone, and orc race.

    Possibly.
But spend a few moments watching, and you can generally spot unnatural motions harvesting and turning to the next node.

    Still need to verify?
Watch the 'bot' a little while longer, and beat him to the next node.
He'll run up to it anyway, and stand there a moment or two, before moving on.

I've noticed that, at least on Xbox, they are still wearing the clothes from the tutorial in the prison and they haven't changed their gamertag from the default. Default gamertags are two random words followed by a 3-digit number. For example, "railroadcotton583." They don't interact with anyone. They walk up to the node whether it's there or not, stand for about 2 seconds, and move to their next assigned node. Most players won't walk up to a node if someone else is already standing there. I was waiting for a runestone to respawn once and the same bot walked up to the node and stood there about 4 times before the runestone respawned and I picked it up. Then a strange thing happened. At midnight Pacific time, they all disappeared. This was in Stros M'kai. It was weird to see about 20 players (within my view) just vanish. But it was also nice to be rid of the bots for the night.

But are these legit methos going to be available for characters below level 10?

For instance, in all start areas are level 4-8 or so, all in the Covenant all with names that are two names separated by a '-' or '_' which is also the account name and all sprinting all the time .. to me these are clearly bots being run likely by one 'owner'.

I may accept that the 50s I see are more likely to be using the kind of buffs you're teferring to @Pevey but I think it's a racing certainty that there's a bot/speedhack easily available which can mimic this; clearly ZOS could do something about it if they wanted, obviously they don't.

It's like it was playing in the early months of the game, bots everywhere, bots actually 'racing' against other bots, the only things I haven't seen yet are the 'flying' bots and the 'underground' bots which were such a feature during the first 6 months.

My thinking is that some people sell their ESO accounts when they leave the game and the people who buy those accounts are botters.

What he said is true. You may follow the same circle, hitting the same nodes in the same order, but you don't do it like a bot. People do not behave like bots. People behave like people. People trying to behave like a bot look like people trying to behave like a bot. The bots are going to have to learn to behave like people, and only then will people be able to successfully behave like a bot. I doubt that will ever come to pass.

Bots do not behave like people. People do not behave like bots. I am convinced that this is an immutable rule.

I usually see bots perma-sprint on the NA server farming nodes. They run in a circuit.

    I do this:
stand at a node you saw them run to before.
gather that node when it pops up
move BACKWARDS in the circuit to the next node the bot would be at
when you see the bot running to you, start to gather that node.

    It's a mini-game I play called Trolling Bots.

It wastes some time and it dosen't stop them but it's fun.
The bot stands motionless to compute it's next move, or
its just runs to the next node (but you just picked that.)

If the game managers REALLY wanted to stop the bots on all servers, I'm sure they have the tools to detect them.
