Almalexia's Enchanted Lantern Helpful in Lightless Oubliette

Just a quick tip here for beginners trying to do the Coldharbor main quest. The "Almalexia's Enchanted Lantern" memento gives you thirty seconds of light in dark places, including the Lightless Oubliette. Just slot it on your quick slot bar, activate it-- and off you go! I also use it to farm crafting materials at night. This extremely useful memento is obtained by doing the Deshaan main quest line "A Favor Returned" when you reach Mournhold. I perused previous posts in this forum and found that other players have also found this memento quite useful in many similar "dark" situations. Happy questing!

I will also bring up the... *ahem* "Pay-to-Win" alternative of using the Treasure Hunter personality, which comes with a permanently active torch in your hand as long as you are not wielding a weapon. :P

I tested both just a couple days ago, and the personality torch doesn’t light the surrounding area much at all. The memento definitely works much better.

Yes, magelight is a nice alternative, plus there is a morph (Radiant Magelight) that boosts spell crit rating as well- but if you don't want to use a skill slot to help see in this and other dark locations, you can use the lantern from a quickslot item. I found using the light of Meridia alone can be problematic at times, since combat sequences and the wisps in the Lightless Oubliette douse its illumination.

The storyline in Lightless Oubliette is good ... but the combat is not challenging.

In other words, no one is going to be cramped for other skills to slot against difficult enemy NPCs.

Not to mention it’s a lot easier for players to find a skill ... than something buried in their Collections menu.

The lantern really is amazing at lighting up your surroundings, it's basically the only memento with an actual practical use.

It is the only group "utility" my dps toon provide for the group. So I keep it up whole time, except boss fight, during group dungeon.

Before I got the Treasure Hunter Personality, I used the Dwemervamidium Mirage Memento.

I just mist form through and lay AoE's behind me. The crystals at the end are extremely bright for me, and my screen brightness is kept low.

I've had the Almalexia memento slotted for quite some time. It's one of my go to dungeoneering tools for dark spaces. :) I've discovered quite a few lootables using it. And as the looters' creed states, "Leave no urn unturned!"

Naagh, they are too busy trying to nerf the performance issues. Think we have a while on this one. :D

It's also useful in the Library portion of Coldharbour.

Boundless Storm will light things up OK too.

As an AD player, I never had the lantern memento as an option when I went through the Coldharbour quests my first time. My solution was simple - use the glowing circle from Healing Springs to light up a large portion of area in front of me as I sprinted past everything. It worked perfectly.

As they already mentioned the torch goes away when fighting whereas Almalexia’s lantern does not.

Nah that memento is given to you in a quest precisely to light up a pitch black quest, so working as intended, no need to fear the darkness nor the nerf.
