About to try PvP

I have a magsorc and only play PvE, but I was thinking about trying PvP and I know it's a steep learning curve. However I found I build (no pet) and a nice gearsetup + skills, so I got that covered.
So now I got the kit to get started, time to die and learn I guess.

Will I learn more playing BG before zerging in Cyro?

Best advice I can give is find a PvP buddy or a beginner friendly PvP guild in game to help get you going in the right direction. If you're PC / NA / DC, look me up in game or pm me on the forum.

I would say so yes. IMO You don’t necessarily have to be good to zerg. You have to be good if you want to not get wrecked in BGs. Also BGs don’t experience the same lag as cyro

First thing you do: As soon as you die to an ability, rush to the forums and demand that it be nerfed, and you'll fit right in :)

If you play in BGs first you will get used to playing with no CP which makes it harder to sustain, so switching to CP afterwards will be an easy transition and you may even be able to drop some sustain for damage.

Just be aware that in no CP the smaller stamina pool and lack of break free, roll dodge, sprint etc cost reduction will make it tougher to manage your stamina. But if you get used to it you'll find it much easier to manage your stamina in CP.

I am not really a fan of BGs so I would say go into Cyrodiil. If you havent do the tutorial it takes about 5 minutes or less to complete, gets you skill points and teaches you the basics- how to use the transits, use siege, repair siege etc.

I would also suggest to turn off outside music if you use it and listen to the game sounds. You can hear the woosh sound of cloak being used near you and other buffs like Rally.

    Never chase!

Even if others chase- Just don't do it.

Don't worry about dying. Everyone dies. It can be annoying for sure sometimes but it isn't a big deal.

Bring lots of soul gems to rezz people and rezz often.

Have fun and see you in Cyrodiil!

If/when you enter Cyro, get the turbo boost (rapid maneuver) immediately. Cyro can be brutal if you don't have some kinda speed buff.

Don't zerg, that is path in nowhere. You may fight solo or with couple of friends near your zerg, or help your zergs when they stuck, protect their siege engines from gankers etc, take resources etc, but don't join that huge group.

Here is what you can expect in Cyrodiil zone chat.
The same people over and over saying how great they are when a battle is won.
The same people over and over saying how bad everyone else is when a battle is lost.

I get much more enjoyment out of small scale combat. BGs are fantastic. You will have far less downtime in BGs. In cyro, prepare to ride....ALOT.

BGs are definitley the place to learn to pvp. You will learn losing, positioning etc much easier then in open world or seiging keeps...

I would also recomend the matriach for group heals...I really cant stand those people that rock into bgs that dont heal a scrap...

BGs are the way to go. I am alliance level 39 (Legate) in six months and I have yet to step foot in Cyro. You'll learn a lot.

Also, don't quit on your team. Even if you keep dying, that's how you'll learn.

Definitely learn in BGs. Much faster combat and less downtime in between.

I leveled from Cp 220 to whatever I am now (1175?) through doing battlegrounds.

I'd like to add for if/when you go into Cyrodiil: Once you start earning AP, please buy and learn how to use siege weapons (flaming oils are fun!) and don't take other players siege unless they say to in zc. You can also buy various repair kits for gold and repairing keep walls and doors and other people's siege will give you AP.

@Gulnagel you totally do, I was just mentioning it if you decide to go to Cyrodiil rather than BG's and want to earn some easy AP to start. It's quite frustrating when new players come into the zone without knowing not to take other peoples weapons. I've almost jumped straight off of keep walls and balconies due to other players taking my oils more than once. Plus, it throws off rotation if someone has more than one set up.

here are the best gear for magsorc
    1. Lich: best sustain
    2. Permafrost: health regen
    3. Engine gardien: sustain

As long as you keep up your shields you won't die thanks to health regen 1.5k mean

And use mage's wrath when your target reachs 10k health to steal the kill.

    Easy win guaranteed

The best campaign in cyrodiil to learn pvp is the non vet (-50). So you need a new char between lvl10-49.

I experienced this campaign during 3years and when i decided to go to vet, I was like a veteran of the war, really. You 'll learn EVERYTHING about combat and war, in low lvl mode, and in vet campaign everything will be harder (more players, more GOOD players, more guilds, more danger, everything will be harder).
I think it's the best advice I can give to someone who wants to learn the pvp in cyrodiil.
BG are way different, there is no KEEP, no siege weapon, no guild strategy, no tactics about war moves... BG arent that easy, you know, and I think a newcomer could be disapointed about pvp... Well you can say the same about cyrodiil, I know.
But in Cyrodiil you can really play as you want, solo ou in group, or in little group smalscaled (3-4 ppl).
-50 campaign is the best one to learn pvp, 7 days, non cp. And once you got everything about pvp/war; you can use your main character and join a vet PVP easier ;)

    As a vet PvP player,

I would say just stay in bg's.
The lag in cyrodiil isnt worth the heartache.
