I felt the same as you some years back, @thomasadinkerke.

Just remember that the first clear is the hardest. It gets easier after that.

    It's not just you.

However, if and when you do get through it, it will be one of the few places you'll revisit from time to time. It's decently challenging and, despite it's flaws, I find it pretty well-designed. It's less tedious and more entertaining than some other content in the game. It's also a good place to put your new characters through, e.g. new classes and builds. At least for solo builds, that is. I like to put my PvP builds through it. You'll get a feel for whether they do enough damage and how good or bad the defenses and sustain are. vMA builds tend to be similar to solo / small-scale PvP builds, not so much group-oriented PvP or PvE builds.

It gets much, much easier. To the point where you're not really dying but you're frustrated because you're spamming it and the weapon you want isn't dropping. I died about 1million times on my first run. I quit and went back a year later to finish it. By my sixth run, I only died once. It gets so much easier.

    Pretty much this.

If you get frustrated just take a break. Much better these days since progress at the arena level is saved. After my first clear I went right back in and cleared it again later the same day.

At first, vMA felt like the most unfair and unforgiving place. Every time I progressed further (to a new arena) I took a break, to prevent me from playing while tilted. I did 2 arenas and then quitted for a day to return the next day. This way, I was able to progress and finally made it.

You are bound to make misplays when you play while tilted. (=when you're upset and angry) It circles deeper when you make a misplay, because you'll feel like it was not a misplay but a fault in the "stupid content I'm trying to play".

Other tips: thanks to progress saving ability of vMA quest, you do not have to do it all at once, take breaks and progress bit by bit. Because you're not after high scores, but a first completion, use as much sigils as you need. Read guides when you feel like you do not understand what is happening and take your time.

A few handy tips that'll make it easier for a new player:

-Look up a guide and learn the mechanics
-Build FULL damage, so that you minimize the amount of mechanics you have to deal with
-Place your ground AoEs before the mobs spawn / as you see the spawn portals
-Plan your sigil use, rather than grabbing them out of desperation
-Round 5 final boss island/sigil order: Haste > Healing > Defense + Offense
-Round 7 is a bit of RNG... Just persist. Venomcallers are annoying
-Round 9 is much easier with high damage, so you can burn things and stay on top of daedroth etc

My first successful attempt followed two aborted ones and I was ready to give it in. Now I clear it once a week as a ritual, get my leaderboard weapon and think little of it. Take a break if you need it and don’t let it take over what you enjoy, but once you get it, vMA loses a lot of its teeth.
