Why sai?

Lyris is the natural born dragon killer.
(Nords of skyrim, just saying)

Lyris would have been the better choice to fight and adventure with the players in these seasons of dragons.

I dont/didnt see any dead dragons in hammerfell/parts of hammerfell in the covenant storyline.

Careful for what you wish, mate. You might get the Prophet over again. Or more Abnur Tharn. Or Stibbons. Granted, that last one is fun, but as useful as a hen who found a knife.

Naryu is more useful than any of them...but that's not saying much.

A pattern emerges. First Tharn, then Sai. I would guess that Lyris will be making an appearance when we go to Skyrim next year.

Nords are natural dragon prey, not predators. The dragons all died out because they ate too many Nords full of mead and sweetrolls.

Lyris will return with the Skyrim chapter, she will have found a new cause in resurrecting the Blades in the search for the new Dragonborn (apparently Tharn and Co were unsuccessful in Elsweyr in countering the Dragon threat). You will be that Dragonborn, a new class of character with a Shout skill line, a new fighters guild skill line called the Blades. This will be released on the 10th anniversary of Skyrim and next year will be the lead up to that.

    Why Sai ?

Well, Tharn is already there (Huzzah, I'm so happy !), Varen sacrificed himself for Tamriel (at least in my story, because I liked him, saw him as a friend, and respected his wish to do the best for the world - both in the past and then), and Sai is the next coolest of the companions. He's a warrior, he's a commander, he has the discipline, the skill, and the tactics.
All that Lyris had/has was/is a tragic past and a big axe. Too much of a Nord stereotype to be of any use. Dragons aren't supposed to be killable by single-handed blind actionism, so she's definitely no "born dragon killer".

That aside: My first thought was "But what about the people that decided to give the sacrifice to Sai ?" I guess they'll somehow explain around it (hopefully they don't just ignore the main quest), but it would have to be one hell of a story to not look cheap.

Imo it's pretty stupid to bring back any of the three companions who could be sacrificed in the main quest line. So with Sai's return what will happen if the Player decided for him to be sacrificed? Will he be missing for that player character? Will he just be magically/ unlogically be resurrected? Will he be something like a projection or ghost?
