GW2 seems like a good mmo for you to try. You don't need to quest, leveled my necro just from crafting in the city, and another from pvp. Good puzzles, secret areas, public events, etc...

I agree. It seems like most people would like GW2. I hated it, but it's light on story (which isn't even good) and everyone is basically a dps. Seems like a win/win for most people.

Anyway, I absolutely adore questing and love it. I find it odd people play MMOs and hate questing, but everyone is different and has their own tastes.

I love questing. It's better than anything other than exploring.

I agreeing that questing is pretty stupid most of the time. Like I just defeated Molag Bal, now you need me to go find your lost dog? Can't somebody else handle that.

(Forever) waiting on one, although you have your own personal quests for want of a better word, either to farm materials in contested areas, be a guardian and protect your gatherers or logistics folk etc The materials are required to craft items such as your typical crafts but also siege, ammunition and structures, a lot of which are ultimately for the good of your entire realm.

    sigh..

Questing is my favourite part of the game after housing, although that's getting a bit of a break at the moment.

The lore, the stories, the people desperate for your help, the fabulous voice acting....and that's all before you even set off to far flung places on your trusty steed to be heroic again. The rewards can be a bit meh at times, but the sheer pleasure of questing, discovering more of both the light and the dark sides of our beautiful Tamriel, and making npc's lives better more than makes up for that.

I can't imagine a traditional MMORPG without questing as its backbone, and I certainly wouldn't play it.

Unless I am on an Alt I ready 100% of the quests in this game, and every other MMO I play. Story and immersion is one of the main reason I play these games so... yeah, I like playing the quests!

I love questing. In fact, that's pretty much all I did the first year I played.

I don't mind questing, and sometimes the stories can be entertaining. However only the first time. I'm willing to do every story ONCE. After that, I never want to touch it again. Doing previously done quests is a chore and a slog. There is nothing entertaining about hearing the same dialogue or running across a map and back for the tenth time.

I dislike that some skill lines and skill points that I want on every character are locked behind hours long quest lines.

I won't pay to unlock them if offered in the crown store though, just like I won't pay for skyshards. Players shouldn't have to repeat content after its become boring and shouldn't have to pay to skip boring content.

Guild Wars 2 doesn't have quests. Or a quest journal. I hate it!

Seconding this :) You probably might have issues with doing hearts on the core and PoF maps-- they're a stand-in for tradtional questing-- but most do add a bit to the story and lore in a more abstract way than ESO's quests and you can usually do multiple things in the area to complete them. Or you can skip them entirely. They are good XP when leveling, however.

What would be the point if not the quests and story? Just to shoot at stuff?

Well... yes. I do very little questing in the game and find a lot of them to be tortuously tedious- like the Psijic questline and the Summerset pain quest... lots of having to run around talking to different people and then fetching something.

My goal is to get my DPS as high as possible so my gameplay style revolves around that: trials/dungeons to get BiS gear, farming to get the mats to upgrade it to gold/for alchemy stuff I need to my spell/weapon power pots, and/or chest farming to either obtain pieces of the gear or get stuff to sell, stealing to get motifs to sell, skyshard hunting, PvP to get transmute crystals, ... and lots and lots and lots of parsing. I'll do quests when necessary to unlock skill lines and level those up, and I actually enjoy doing the Mages Guild quest. I'll do a quest here and there, but I've tried to get into it and have generally been rather uninspired, though I will say I'm enjoying the Imperial City quest, but that may just be because that's one of my favorite areas.

Not everyone's cup of tea for sure, but I have fun!

That's the important thing - to have fun doing whatever it is that trips your trigger. There is no "right or wrong" to this game - if it's right for you great.... if it's wrong for you, it's never going to get better.
