Stam vs Mag Sorc

Hello All,

I started playing a Dark elf sorc so I can flip flop between stam and mag. I'm thinking about trying out Malestrom Arena but not sure which build will have an easier time...stam or mag?

Thank you all

It depends on what you are more comfortable with. I like my MagSorc for the extra forgiveness factor of damage shields...but I'm much better at playing my Stam Sorc so I tend to have an easier time completing the rounds on her.

If you just want to jump into VMA, I'd try MagSorc first, since they don't need Caltrops and Vigor from PVP.

vMA is a learning curve either way, better play what u r more comfy with, i mean, there is the one bar sorc build thing, but i dont count that as passing vMA

As stated, the best answer is what you are most comfortable with. I also wouldnt play stam in VMA for the first time without Vicious Ophidian Gear and Vigor (PVP skill), so if you dont have those, it might make your decision easier. With magic, your gear doesnt matter as much.

Stam Sorc is probably the easiest stamina clear and mag sorc is probably the easiest magic clear IMO. Surge is just a super strong skill in VMA. I think a ranged build (magic sorc) with passive heals and big shields will give you more of a cushion when learning than stamina, but both are very doable. You are going to need to beat your head against it either way.

Pet sorc is seen as very forgiving for beginners. My stam sorc only out scores my magicka sorc by a couple thousand because of time and such, but I don't use pets because they're generally slower to play.

    Stam sorc!! Loads of fun

For vMA, I used Briarheart and Spriggan's for my first clear, then swapped out spriggie's for Seventh Legion once I had more CP. Seventh Legion makes busy stages (like the last stage) easy, but doesn't proc enough on stages with fewer adds (like murkmire stage). All overland sets. Night Mother's Gaze is probably better than Spriggan's for stamsorc :p

I think it's best to learn with Iceheart monster set — between that, Briarheart, and Surge, you'll have plenty of passive self-healing as long as you keep your 3-4 DoTs down. Works for magsorc, as well.

Stam Sorc with Vicious Ophidian (must have) + Night Mothers Gaze + Slimecraw. NMG and Slimecraw cover Major Fracture and Minor Berserk not available in class kit, stronger than any other sets. This will give you the quickest clears.

If your still learning it may be best to slot Iceheart Monster set because the shield is crazy strong and frequent. If your not vampire (don't suggest it for VMA until you can avoid fire dmg), Troll King is also pretty good for passive Health Regen.

With Crit Surge and Vigor you will have a crazy amount of HoT. Once you get better you can unslot Vigor, Crit Surge is enough.

Most importantly, kill the ads as fast as possible. In VMA, the best defense is a good offense. Learn the spawns and don't be afraid to use the power-ups until you're ready to do score pushing.

Mag Sorc as other's have mentioned is a bit more forgiving, but slower. The new mag set "False God's Devotion" is awesome and the Mag version of Vicious Ophidian I would recommend using.

The advantage of comfortability won't get you all the way imo. Having a magicka shield is huge for new vMA players, I'd say it's worth getting used to magsorc for that alone.

One bar pet sorc is reputedly the easiest way to run VMA (Its an Alcast build). A handful of guildies have confirmed its noticeably easier

I am currently leveling one as I am tired of the grind with my stamina characters. With any luck, I'll find out this weekend.

To clarify, Alcast showcased the build, but it is Mistress of Apocrypha's build that Alcast demonstrated, if we are talking of the same Plague Doctor / Necro / Monster build.

I used it for a few of my first clears, but after I learned the content a bit more I decided to move to a build that provided more damage. I use the Andy S werewolf build, now.
