Maximum number of characters

What is the maximum number of characters you can have on a server (PC) and will the store keep letting me buy extra slots if I'm already at max?

but am confused by the following;
By default, you can create up to eight unique characters per Megaserver in The Elder Scrolls Online. However, you are able to purchase up to seven additional character slots from the in-game Crown Store. The curent maximum number of characters you can have on a server is 18
probably missing something silly but in my maths 8+7=15!

✭✭✭Max is 18 and no the crown store will not let you buy for yourself, it is greyed out and shows a gift icon (on mouse over) or fully upgraded otherwise

✭✭✭The default should now be 9 since they added one default with Elsweyr. Then they added 2 additional slots you can purchase in the crown store making the total 18

A - because reasons
B - because I want to play an x-race tank and an x-race dps (and an x-race dps of a different class) and swapping between these on one character is expensive, time consuming and often impossible.
C - because why would you want to play just one?
D - because it’s fun, my Breton Dragon Knight is very different from my Breton Necro
E - because sometimes it’s fun to level a new character and after you’ve done 10 you HAVE to have more than one for at least one race
