Seriously does not seem very difficult to put in a difficulty slider on the players end.
Let it scale from x2 to x10. 10x would be you take 10x damage and do 1/10th as much damage to npcs.
This could be coded the same way battle spirit is so it does not affect other players but would actually make open world and questing feel rewarding.
