Ranged magicka dragon knight

Anyone have any good ranged dragon knight builds? I wanna have a fire mage, but hate that all the dragon knight builds I see use melee skills... If it simply can't be done without being really weak then let me know please

    you need to be melee range for burning embers and engulfing flames.

    Well, you Will be much stronger in meele range, especially since your "Buff all fire damage by 10%" DoT is kinda meele

    It's called a sorc or a nightblade. You CAN play a ranged magDK but the class is shines in melee, even if using a fire staff.

    If you consider 10m distance a ranged character, then you can. Elemental Weapon instead of Whip, Fire Clench instead of Burning Embers.
    If you need even more distance, replace Engulfing with Scalding Rune but you will loose a lot of damage. With all these replacements you should do 30-35k most from my tests.

    soo that sounds like a 50% dmg loss compared to a good solid m eele magDK build

    doesnt seem to be worth it IMO.

    mDK was desinged to be a meele class, like magSorc or magBlade are Ranged classes on magicka builds (stam can always meele)

    The reality is that all magic classes need to be in semi-melee for max DPS, or in other words, they need to be in range of elemental blockade. DKs work with FP as a spammable, and engulfing flames is I believe 10 meters, but you will need to move into melee if you want Burning Embers, which is pretty usefu both for the damage and the heal, or if you want to run whip as a spammable. "Ranged" magic classes have been moving in and out of melee range to cast things like trap for years, so you can make it work for the most part.

    If you really want a pure ranged magic class, you are better off with Sorc or Nightblade. Truthfully, in the current meta, unless you want to be a Z'en DK, you are better off with them anyways, at least from a PVE DPS point of view.

    Anyways, if you need a ranged Magicka Dragonknight in the current meta might as well give these recommendations. ((It's not optimal sadly because old Stone Giant is gone.))

    Elemental Weapon or Crushing Shock
    Degeneration
    Flame Clench for ranged CC
    Elemental Drain
    Unstable Wall of Elements
    Meteor/Elemental Storm for ultimate
    Eruption for an additional ground DoT if you have the magicka to cast it.

    Mostly have to go outside the DK kit for it to work. Can thrown in a few melee abilities like Fossilize, Burning Embers, or the 10m Engulfing Flames AoE cone, but if you plan to be purely ranged you'll be disadvantaged as a DK.

    This game doesn't have a lot of the traditional RPG character archetypes. No fire mage unfortunately. MagDK is forced into melee due to their bread and butter skills being melee range.

    Hi there, I play ranged magDK with elemental succesion + BSW (backbar)+ master staff frontbar + maw of infernal (pale order + slimecraw for solo)..
    As spammable force pulse (for cleave because of BSW), clench or reach for master staff proc, engulfing flames(or inner light)… On backbar blockade, inferno, engulfing, flex slots..
    For solo play I preffer close combat because of fiery breath and burning embers..
    For mundus I run thief for crit…
    If want some more crit damage switch elemental succesion for medusa or mother sorrow..

    @barbarian340 - Try this, all skills except engulfing is range, and even for that you get 7 meter range so can easily move in and out.
